Legal Analyst

Job Summary

Civitas, a Sacramento-based legal and consulting firm, is seeking an organized, detail-oriented, and proactive Legal Analyst to join our growing team. We specialize in igniting local economies, creating jobs, and establishing stable funding for destination promotions and downtown improvements throughout the United States.

About You

In this position, you will support our legal and project management teams by conducting research, preparing documents, and helping keep projects on track. You'll work closely with our paralegals and project managers to produce accurate, well-organized work for our clients. To be successful in this position, you will need:

• Strong research skills and the ability to read, interpret, and summarize laws and legal documents
• Careful attention to detail when drafting, reviewing, and organizing documents
• The ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally with team members, clients, and stakeholders
• A willingness to learn improvement district laws and the legal frameworks that drive our work
• The ability to manage multiple tasks and shift priorities in a fast-paced environment
• A strong sense of ownership in your work and the ability to follow through on tasks, even when you're waiting on others to finish their piece
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, including formatting and document preparation
• Familiarity with legal research tools such as Lexis Advance or Westlaw is a plus

Requirements & Application

Preference will be given to candidates that meet one of the requirements below, as well as reside in the Sacramento area:

• A Bachelor's Degree in paralegal studies, legal studies, political science, public policy, or a related field; or
• A Bachelor's Degree in any subject with coursework or demonstrated experience in legal research and writing; or
• An Associate's Degree in paralegal studies or legal studies with a minimum of one year of relevant experience

Preference will also be given to candidates with experience in any of the following: legal research, legal writing, contract review, nonprofit organizations, municipal or local government, legislative processes, or project coordination.

Benefits

This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Benefits include sick time, medical, dental and vision insurance after 30 days and vacation after 90 days, and at least 11 paid holidays per year. Employees will be eligible for 401k after one year. Compensation between $23-$30 per hour, DOE. This is a hybrid role, with attendance required in our Sacramento office Tuesday-Thursday.
