Position Overview
The Legal Counsel will be responsible for managing the company’s legal affairs with a strong focus on employment laws, labor compliance, and litigation management, while supporting overall business operations of an IT/technology services organization. The role requires close collaboration with HR, leadership, and external counsels to mitigate legal risks and ensure regulatory compliance across jurisdictions.
Employment Laws & Labor Compliance (Mandatory)
- Advise HR and leadership on employment laws, including hiring, termination, disciplinary actions, employee relations, performance management, and workplace investigations.
- Ensure compliance with labor laws, industrial relations laws, wage & hour regulations, POSH, data privacy in HR systems, and statutory compliances.
- Draft, review, and update employment contracts, offer letters, NDAs, non-compete clauses, separation agreements, and HR policies.
- Support management in sensitive employee matters, restructuring, layoffs, and disciplinary proceedings.
Litigation & Dispute Management (Mandatory)
- Handle and oversee employment-related litigation, labor disputes, arbitrations, conciliation proceedings, and tribunal/court matters.
- Coordinate with external counsels, prepare litigation strategy, review pleadings, and manage case progress.
- Represent the company before labor authorities, inspectors, and regulatory bodies where required.
- Maintain litigation trackers, assess legal exposure, and advise leadership on risk and resolution strategies.
Commercial & Corporate Legal Support
- Draft, review, and negotiate client contracts, MSAs, SOWs, vendor agreements, confidentiality agreements, and partnership contracts typical to IT services.
- Advise business teams on contractual risks, indemnities, liabilities, and compliance obligations.
- Support corporate governance matters, board documentation, and internal approvals as needed.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with applicable IT industry regulations, data protection laws, and corporate laws.
- Conduct legal risk assessments and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Drive internal legal awareness sessions for HR and business teams.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- LL.B. from a recognized university; LL.M. preferred.
- Min 12 years of post-qualification experience, preferably in an IT services / technology company or law firm handling IT clients.
- Strong, hands-on expertise in employment laws and labor litigation is mandatory.
- Proven experience managing employment disputes, labor courts, tribunals, and regulatory authorities.
- Solid understanding of commercial contracts relevant to IT services.
- Experience working with global stakeholders and cross-border employment issues is an advantage.
