JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Manager of Dental Billing supervises billing, coding, and dental claims specialists while serving as the main point of contact for students, faculty, and staff regarding routing billing issues. The position coordinates, monitors, and maintains policies and procedures on coding and billing for dental services under the supervision of the Assistant Dean of Finance. This position provides support for on-site and off-site clinics and oversees the collections process
Responsibilities
Provides work direction and supervision of revenue cycle and insurance staff for day-to-day operation.
Monitors departmental claims status through regular audit and provides directions to dental claims and billing specialists.
Establishes and monitors the standard for adjustments and write-offs for all clinics within the College of Dentistry.
Provides oversight and approval of patient and insurance refunds.
Collaborate with department heads to designate faculty to approve financial adjustments on treatments.
Collaborate with collection agencies to maximize revenue collected and reduce receivable and write-off balances.
Coordinates with department heads in establishing insurance and patient billing standards including chart documentation requirements to ensure maximum reimbursement.
Troubleshoots issues with patient account software and works with clinic staff and providers to deliver treatments with proper documentation
Maintains current coding within patient account software and monitors CDT codes within patient account software to maintain accuracy.
Provides supervision of insurance credentialing and monthly patient statement activity.
EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of experience in medical or dental billing and coding; OR a combination of education and experience to equal eight (8) years. (Billing and coding certification preferred.)
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Knowledge of and experience with dental and medical billing processes and systems.
Knowledge of federal, state, and payer regulations within medical billing.
Ability to effectively communicate information, policies, and/or procedures.
Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Proficient with Microsoft Excel.
