WHY THIS ROLE
This senior-level engineering position supports the renovation of 30 nuclear pits at Los Alamos National Laboratory. As a PE3, you'll lead engineering functions and serve as a technical authority across the renovation program - coordinating across disciplines, managing vendor activities, and driving safe, compliant execution in a Hazard Category 2 nuclear environment.
Top Priority Qualifications
#1 - Glovebox Experience: Demonstrated experience leading glovebox design modifications, maintenance, or operational readiness reviews in a nuclear facility
#2 - Nuclear Engineering Experience: Senior-level engineering experience within a nuclear facility or DOE/NRC-regulated environment, including nuclear criticality safety or nuclear systems design
#3 - Mechanical / HVAC Engineering: Advanced experience in HVAC design, confinement ventilation systems, or environmental control engineering for nuclear or classified facilities
What You'll Do
Lead engineering functions across all phases of the 30-pit renovation project at LANL
Serve as technical authority for design reviews, engineering change control, and technical submittals
Interface with nuclear safety, radiological control, and quality assurance teams
Lead glovebox design modifications and operational readiness support
Direct mechanical and HVAC systems engineering for confinement and process areas
Travel to vendor sites as required to lead fabrication reviews, testing, and acceptance (per diem provided)
Prepare, review, and approve engineering calculations, specifications, drawings, and procedures
Support project scheduling, cost tracking, and reporting to senior project management

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
S. Citizenship and ability to obtain a DOE Q Clearance
4-year Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Nuclear, Chemical, or related field)
5–10 Years of progressive engineering experience with demonstrated leadership
Hybrid schedule - combination of on-site (Los Alamos, NM) and remote work
Preferred
Demonstrated glovebox design, modification, or operational readiness leadership
Senior nuclear engineering experience in DOE/NRC-regulated facilities
Advanced Mechanical/HVAC design for nuclear or classified confinement systems
PE license or EIT with path to PE
Familiarity with DOE Orders, nuclear criticality safety, or radiological work controls
