Key Responsibilities
The "What": Strategic Sourcing & Hands-On Execution
1. Strategic Sourcing & Purchasing
- Supplier Relationship Management (SRM): Lead the commercial relationship with engine OEMs (including KOEL and third-party suppliers) and local component vendors.
- Aggressive Negotiation: Drive continuous cost optimization by negotiating pricing, payment terms, and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) that protect Kirloskar’s margins and project timelines.
- Vendor Performance: Develop and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) focused on On-Time Delivery (OTD), Quality (DPPM), and Cost Savings.
2. Hands-On Plant & Assembly Oversight
- On-Site Production Audits: Perform frequent site visits to US "packagers" (assembly shops) to verify that engine-to-genset assembly matches Kirloskar’s technical Bill of Materials (BOM).
- Quality & Technical Verification: Inspect finished units for mechanical integrity, ensuring enclosures, radiators, and control panels meet stringent mission-critical specifications.
- BOM Management: Troubleshoot "fit-and-finish" issues on the shop floor by acting as the liaison between the local assembly line and India-based engineering teams.
3. Supply Chain & ERP Execution
- Advanced Procurement: Manage the full "Procure-to-Pay" cycle within the ERP system, placing Purchase Orders (POs) and tracking material flow across international borders.
- Logistics Orchestration: Partner with regional teams to track ocean containers and manage domestic freight, ensuring long-lead components (engines/alternators) arrive exactly when needed for production.
Skills & Technical Mastery
The "How": Technical Background & Commercial Acumen
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or Business (with technical experience).
- Experience: 5–8 years of experience in technical procurement, plant sourcing, or manufacturing operations within the Power Gen or heavy machinery sector.
- ERP Proficiency: Proven experience using ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics) to manage multi-level BOMs and complex inventory.
- Technical Literacy: Must be "Genset Native"—able to read mechanical drawings/schematics and identify engine components, fuel systems, and balance-of-plant (BOP) hardware.
- Cost Management: Skilled in Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analysis and "Should-Cost" modeling to drive better negotiation outcomes.
- Logistics Knowledge: Understanding of Incoterms (DDP, EXW) and the nuances of international shipping from Asia to the Americas.
Personal Attributes
The "Who": Behavioral Traits & Work Style
- The "Technical Negotiator": You use your mechanical knowledge to push back on suppliers and ensure you are buying the right quality at the right price.
- Hands-On Grit: You are as comfortable in steel-toed boots auditing a warehouse as you are presenting cost-savings data to the Director of Operations.
- Cross-Functional Diplomat: Able to resolve a shipping delay with a foreman in the morning and a contract dispute with a VP in the afternoon.
- Agile Problem Solver: Thrives in a fast-paced environment where data center project deadlines are non-negotiable.
- Road Warrior: Willingness to travel 25–40% locally and regionally to visit supplier plants and packaging facilities.
