We are looking for a personable Sales Assistant to join a museum team in Palm Springs, California on a Contract basis. In this role, you will help create a welcoming experience for visitors while supporting front-desk interactions, phone inquiries, and retail transactions. This position is well suited to someone who enjoys customer-facing work, communicates clearly, and can balance service with day-to-day sales support.
Responsibilities: • Greet guests warmly and provide helpful assistance as they arrive at the museum. • Respond to incoming phone calls, answer general questions, and connect visitors with the appropriate staff or destination. • Process retail and merchandise purchases accurately using point-of-sale equipment. • Guide visitors to exhibits, service areas, or team members based on their needs. • Support daily sales and customer service activities to help maintain smooth front-of-house operations. • Handle basic cash transactions responsibly and ensure purchase records are completed correctly. • Contribute to a positive guest experience by addressing routine concerns in a thoughtful and attentive manner. • Work a flexible part-time schedule of approximately 20 to 25 hours per week, including weekend availability as needed. • At least 1 year of experience in customer service, retail, cashiering, or a related support role. • Ability to communicate clearly and courteously with visitors, team members, and callers. • Familiarity with point-of-sale systems and basic cash handling practices. • Strong interpersonal skills and a detail-oriented, service-oriented approach. • Dependable work habits and the ability to manage responsibilities independently. • Flexibility to work within museum operating hours, including weekends. • Experience supporting sales activities such as inside sales, direct sales, or front-counter sales is a plus.
