Job Title: Compensation & Total Rewards Lead


Location: Preferred Boston or New York; remote candidates will be considered


Duration: 6 months (with potential extention or conversion )

Pay Rate: $60/hr, approximately $125,000 annually

Work Arrangement: Onsite if a local office is nearby; remote considered


Role Overview

Dynamic Consulting Firm is seeking an experienced Compensation & Total Rewards Lead on a contract basis to support a comprehensive market benchmarking and internal compensation review, focused primarily on the U.S. and Canada. This role will be critical in ensuring salary structures and total rewards offerings are competitive, equitable, and aligned with the organization’s business strategy.

The Compensation & Total Rewards Lead will conduct external benchmarking, evaluate internal compensation data, and develop structured salary guidelines across practices, levels, and actuarial credential progression. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, excellent analytical and interpersonal skills, and the ability to translate compensation data into actionable recommendations.

Key Responsibilities

Market Benchmarking and Research

  • Conduct comprehensive benchmarking analysis of salary, bonus, and total rewards across relevant markets, including Life, P&C, and Health actuarial consulting.
  • Identify appropriate peer groups and data sources, including internal data, industry benchmarks, and compensation surveys.
  • Analyze compensation trends tied to actuarial credentials, exams, years of experience, and specialization areas.

Salary Framework Development

  • Develop structured salary ranges and guidelines by practice area, role or job family, level of experience, and actuarial exam progression or credential, including ASA and FSA.
  • Propose frameworks for base salary and total compensation positioning.

Internal Compensation Analysis

  • Review current employee compensation data across practices, roles, and geographies.
  • Assess alignment with market benchmarks, internal equity, and pay progression expectations.
  • Identify outliers, compression issues, and inconsistencies.
  • Partner with HR leadership to prioritize potential adjustments based on impact, risk, and budget considerations.

Total Rewards Review

  • Evaluate the broader rewards package, including benefits, incentives, exam support, and related programs.
  • Recommend enhancements to improve competitiveness, retention, and employee value proposition.

Stakeholder Engagement and Deliverables

  • Present findings and recommendations to HR leadership and senior business stakeholders.
  • Develop clear, actionable reports and tools, including compensation bands, guidelines, and dashboards.
  • Provide documentation to support ongoing compensation management.

Required Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in compensation, human resources, finance, or HR analytics.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, modeling, and working with large data sets.
  • Experience working with compensation survey data preferred.
  • Background in actuarial, insurance, consulting, or professional services environments preferred.
  • Familiarity with actuarial career paths and credential structures, including ASA, FSA, and exam progression.
