Senior Construction Inspector – Sewer / Infrastructure (NYCDDC)
Location: Rockaway, Queens, NY
Work Schedule: Day and/or Night Shifts (Night work required as per project schedule)
This project involves the rehabilitation of approximately 1,300 linear feet of large-diameter combined sewer interceptor beneath Beach Channel Drive in Rockaway, Queens. The scope includes sliplining using centrifugally-cast fiberglass-reinforced polymer mortar (CCFRPM) pipe, annular grouting, confined space operations, and coordination with NYCDEP, NYCDOT, and other agencies.
We are seeking a Senior Construction Inspector with NYCDDC sewer infrastructure experience. The Senior Inspector will serve as a key field leader, supporting the Resident Engineer in overseeing inspection staff, ensuring quality control, contract compliance, and adherence to all safety and regulatory requirements.
This role requires strong technical expertise in sewer rehabilitation, leadership in field operations, and the ability to manage complex construction activities in an active urban environment.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and oversee daily inspection activities for sewer rehabilitation operations, including cleaning, CCTV inspections, sliplining, and grouting.
Supervise and mentor junior inspectors, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance with NYCDDC standards.
Ensure all work complies with contract documents, specifications, and agency requirements.
Review and verify contractor operations, materials, and installed quantities for accuracy and payment.
Prepare and review detailed daily inspection reports, including field measurements and photographic documentation.
Assist the Resident Engineer with contract administration, including progress tracking, payment review, and change order documentation.
Identify and evaluate potential extra work; assist in cost analysis and documentation.
Monitor and enforce Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT), environmental compliance, and site safety.
Oversee confined space operations and ensure compliance with OSHA Subpart AA.
Monitor annular grouting operations, including mix design, pressures, and logs.
Coordinate with NYCDEP, NYCDOT, utility companies (Con Edison, National Grid), and other stakeholders.
Ensure all documentation complies with NYCDDC “Standard Records” and filing protocols.
Participate in progress meetings and provide technical input to project leadership.
Required Qualifications
Minimum 10+ years of experience in construction inspection, with significant work on NYCDDC infrastructure projects.
Experience in sewer rehabilitation, sliplining, grouting, and confined space operations.
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field Or NICET IV.
Proven experience in a lead or senior inspection role.
Strong knowledge of NYCDDC and NYCDEP standards and procedures.
Experience with contract administration (unit-price and lump-sum).
Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and shop drawings.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); familiarity with PIMS/PDMS preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
