Position Summary
The Storage System Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and optimization of enterprise storage and server platforms supporting Samsung’s Taylor fabrication facility. This individual will be responsible to lead OS patching, upgrades, Tier‑3 troubleshooting, and capacity planning while supporting disaster recovery, new system design, and implementation projects. This position requires deep technical expertise and strong troubleshooting skills in a fast‑paced, high‑availability manufacturing environment.
This is a full-time onsite role in Taylor, Texas.
Responsibilities
Operate and support datacenter servers and storage systems with 24/7 availability for FAB/CUB production environments.
Maintain and administer Dell R‑Series physical servers, Unity XT storage arrays, Connectrix switches, and VPLEX systems.
Maintain DellEMC, NetApp, Pure Storage, and/or Hitachi Storage arrays, and Cisco and Brocade SAN switches and fabrics (must have experience).
Develop and execute maintenance plans, lifecycle roadmaps, subscription renewals, and vendor coordination activities.
Create and implement cost‑saving strategies related to storage utilization, hardware lifecycle, and operational efficiency.
Manage OS patching, firmware upgrades, and Tier‑3 troubleshooting for storage and server platforms.
Lead and support datacenter projects, including disaster recovery planning, new system design, and infrastructure implementation.
Day-to-day maintenance and operational support of storage systems and their interactions with Windows and UNIX/Linux hosts interacting of storage protocols (SAN, iSCSI, NAS, NFS, SMB, CIFS, Object, S3)
Maintain storage capacity plans and optimize utilization to achieve maximum performance and efficiency.
Oversee asset management for both virtualized and physical systems, ensuring accurate tracking and lifecycle documentation.
Design, update, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for storage and server operations.
Mentor and train junior and entry‑level engineers and technicians to strengthen team capability.
Requirements
4+ years of experience in datacenter storage or systems administration within enterprise or manufacturing environments.
Must have strong hands‑on experience with Unity XT or VPLEX platforms. Prior experience with NetApp/Isilon is applicable.
Must have SAN switch management experience with either Brocade or Cisco MDS.
Deep understanding of SAN architecture, volume management, and enterprise storage concepts.
Proficiency with Red Hat, Oracle Linux, and Windows Server environments, including physical server maintenance.
Experience with datacenter monitoring, capacity planning, and 24/7 operational support.
Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills for complex storage and system issues; Must Have.
Knowledge of EMC technologies and storage best practices.
Storage solution experiences on NetApp, EMC products with Volume Management (LUN management, Provisioning iSCSI and FC LUN, Disk pool and staging), NAS: CIFS, NFS, iSCSI, FC and NDMP management
Strong communication skills and ability to mentor junior team members.
Communicate clearly and partner with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
Provide effective knowledge transfer to peers.
Maintain meticulous documentation habits and proactively share insights that strengthen team capability.
Respond effectively to urgent or after‑hours support needs.
Must be eligible to work in the US for any employer without restrictions.
Must be willing and able to work full-time onsite in Taylor, TX.
