The Vice President of Professional Services and Medical Affairs provides strategic and operational leadership for veterinary medical engagement, scientific communications, and professional education. This role ensures that the company maintains strong credibility with the veterinary community while supporting the responsible use and clinical adoption of the company’s products and services.
The VP will lead a team responsible for medical affairs, veterinary technical services, field veterinary engagement, and professional education, serving as a key bridge between Global Marketing and Technical Education, regulatory, and commercial teams.
This position plays a critical role in strengthening the company’s reputation as a trusted scientific and clinical partner to veterinarians, veterinary healthcare teams and animal health stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Medical Leadership
- Develop and execute the medical affairs and professional services strategy aligned with corporate and commercial priorities.
- Provide veterinary and scientific leadership across the organization.
- Ensure all medical communications and field support activities meet regulatory and compliance standards.
- Represent the company as a scientific authority in animal health.
2. Veterinary & Professional Engagement
- Build strong relationships with veterinary professionals, academic institutions, and key opinion leaders (KOLs).
- Lead professional outreach programs including:
- Continuing veterinary education
- Scientific symposia
- Advisory boards
- Veterinary congress participation
- Strengthen partnerships with veterinary associations and academic research centers.
3. Medical Affairs & Scientific Communications
- Oversee development of scientific publications, medical information resources, and educational materials.
- Ensure accurate communication of product data, safety information, and clinical evidence.
- Support the dissemination of clinical research findings and real-world evidence.
4. Field Veterinary Services
- Lead the field veterinary services team responsible for:
- Technical support to customers
- Product training for veterinarians
- Clinical troubleshooting
- Veterinary customer relationship management
- Ensure field teams deliver high-quality scientific and clinical engagement.
5. Medical Consult Support
- Establish and oversee a medical consultation program that provides timely, evidence-based clinical guidance to veterinarians and veterinary healthcare regarding the appropriate use of the company’s animal health products.
- Lead a team of veterinary medical experts responsible for responding to clinical inquiries, product use questions, treatment protocols, and complex case consultations across companion animal and/or livestock segments.
- Ensure all consultations are grounded in sound veterinary science, regulatory compliance, and responsible product use.
- Develop standardized processes and systems to document, track, and analyze medical inquiries in order to identify emerging clinical trends, safety signals, or unmet needs in veterinary practice.
- Provide consultative support for complex or escalated cases, serving as a senior clinical authority for both internal stakeholders and external veterinary professionals.
- Collaborate with medical affairs, pharmacovigilance, and regulatory teams to ensure accurate communication of product information, adverse event management, and appropriate reporting.
- Translate insights from medical consultations into improvements in educational programs, product training, and clinical guidance materials.
6. Commercial & Product Support
- Partner with marketing and commercial teams to ensure products are positioned with strong scientific and clinical support.
- Provide medical oversight for product launches and lifecycle strategies.
- Support training of sales teams on product science and clinical application.
7. Clinical Research & Evidence Generation
- Guide post-approval clinical research and real-world evidence generation.
- Identify opportunities for:
- Investigator-initiated studies
- Collaborative research with universities
- Field trials and observational studies
8. Regulatory & Pharmacovigilance Collaboration
- Partner with regulatory affairs to ensure compliance with animal health regulations and labeling requirements.
- Provide medical oversight for adverse event reporting and pharmacovigilance programs.
9. Team Leadership
- Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing team of:
- Veterinary medical directors
- Technical services veterinarians
- Medical affairs professionals
- Professional education specialists
- Foster a culture of scientific integrity, collaboration, and customer focus.
Qualifications
Education
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent) required
- Advanced degree (PhD, DACVIM, or similar specialty certification) preferred
Experience
- Minimum of 12 years of experience in animal health, veterinary medicine, or pharmaceutical medical affairs
- Proven leadership experience managing medical affairs or veterinary professional services teams
- Strong understanding of the animal health industry, veterinary practice dynamics, and regulatory environment
