Bengaluru Space Expo 2026: India’s Aerospace & Space Ecosystem Is Moving to the Next Level, The recently concluded 9th Bengaluru Space Expo 2026, held from 7–9 September at BIEC, Bengaluru, once again demonstrated the growing strength of India’s space, aerospace and defence ecosystem. What stood out to me was not just the technology on display, but the depth of collaboration taking place across the ecosystem. From space manufacturing, AI and autonomous systems to ISR, secure communications, human spaceflight and deep-space exploration, the discussions reflected a clear transition: India is moving from participation to capability and from capability to global partnership. The international participation was particularly encouraging, with companies and delegations from countries including Australia, the United States, Japan, the UK and Europe exploring opportunities with India’s growing space and technology ecosystem. For Indian aerospace and advanced manufacturing companies, I believe the message is very clear: * Build world-class manufacturing capability * Invest in advanced materials and precision investment, casting And components * Strengthen quality and process maturity * Develop aerospace-grade supply chains * Collaborate with global OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers * Move from cost competitiveness to technology competitiveness * Build capabilities that can support both Aerospace and Defence The future opportunity is enormous. India Wants a $44 Bn Space Economy by 2033, but IN-SPACe Chief Warns: Who Will Buy It All? India has an ambitious target to grow its space economy from roughly $8.4 billion to $44 billion by 2033. But IN-SPACe Chairman Pawan Goenka has raised a critical question: can demand grow as quickly as India's ability to build satellites, rockets and space services? Speaking at the Bengaluru Space Expo 2026, Goenka said India could build $44 billion worth of space-sector supply by 2033, but warned that manufacturing capacity alone will not create a successful industry. The real challenge is finding enough customers. Goenka said the government is increasingly recognising that India has not fully exploited the economic potential of space. He expects satellite data to create more tangible value by 2032-33 across industries, while international markets could become increasingly important for Indian companies. India already has market-access agreements with 61 countries, while the government's 2033 roadmap targets around $11 billion in space exports. Goenka also had a warning for India's growing space-startup ecosystem: don't rush growth at the expense of fundamental science. Meanwhile, ISRO Chairman V Narayanan says India may need 200–300 new satellites within six to seven years, creating a huge domestic opportunity that cannot be fulfilled by ISRO alone. 🚀 An insightful experience at Space Expo 2026, Bengaluru! 🇮🇳 Proud to have been part of the Accord Software & Systems team at Space Expo 2026, where I had the opportunity to engage with some of the key stakeholders shaping India’s rapidly evolving space ecosystem. As an FAE working in GNSS, Timing & Positioning, it was particularly valuable to discuss how high-precision, reliable GNSS navigation and timing are becoming increasingly critical across space and defence applications. From space-grade GNSS receivers and navigation solutions to precision timing, the conversations reinforced an important point: Accurate Position, Navigation & Timing (PNT) is fundamental infrastructure for the next generation of space systems. The expo was also a great opportunity to: 🔹 Interact with senior leaders, government & defence officials and industry experts 🔹 Understand emerging requirements across India’s space ecosystem 🔹 Explore potential applications for Accord’s space-grade GNSS receivers and timing solutions 🔹 Exchange ideas with some of India’s exciting space startups and innovators, including Skyroot, Dhruva Space, Vyomik and many others 🔹 Witness the growing collaboration between established players, startups and the broader global space community And a definite highlight was getting the opportunity to listen to Sunita Williams and hear her perspective on space exploration and the future of the industry. 🌍🚀 For me, the most rewarding part was not just showcasing technology, but understanding real-world challenges and connecting GNSS/PNT technology with the evolving needs of the space industry. India’s space ecosystem is moving incredibly fast — and being part of that journey from the GNSS & precision timing perspective is genuinely exciting.
