World Malaria Day is a reminder that some of the world’s most persistent challenges are also among the most preventable. 🦟 Malaria continues to impact millions of people each year—yet it is both treatable & preventable with the right tools, awareness & access to care. Progress has been made through: - Improved diagnostics & treatment - Insecticide-treated mosquito nets - Ongoing vaccine development & distribution But the work is far from over—especially in regions where healthcare access & infrastructure remain limited. Today is about more than awareness. It’s about sustained action, investment & global collaboration to reduce cases, save lives & ultimately eliminate malaria. Because where you live should not determine your risk of a preventable disease. #WorldMalariaDay #GlobalHealth #PublicHealth #MalariaPrevention #HealthcareAccess #EndMalaria

Today is World Malaria Day, a reminder that Malaria remains a major public health challenge across Africa. Effective malaria control goes beyond treatment—it depends on strong research systems, accurate data, and locally relevant scientific insight. At MyAfroDNA, we support this work through: biospecimen provision for infectious disease research molecular testing services that enable precise analysis data-driven approaches that strengthen public health responses. Building sustainable solutions to malaria requires continuous investment in African-led research and infrastructure. Because the more we understand, the better we can respond. #malariaday #malariaawareness #malariainafrica

Malaria control has made significant progress over the past two decades but one critical gap remains: Detection The latest World Health Organization insights highlight: • Persistent surveillance gaps • Growing diagnostic challenges (including pfhrp2 deletions) • Delays in outbreak identification. By the time cases are detected, transmission is often already underway. The question is: What if we could detect risk earlier, before human cases rise? This challenge isn’t unique to malaria. In hospitality, bed bug infestations often go unnoticed for weeks, until guests are impacted. In public health, vector-borne disease outbreaks can spread before systems catch up. In both cases, delayed detection leads to: • Greater spread • Higher costs • Lasting impact on health systems, communities, and reputation. This World Malaria Day, we’re focusing on a simple idea: Better detection means faster response and fewer infections Advancing how we detect threats will enhance prevention solutions. Across sectors, the future is finding problems sooner, not reacting later. #WorldMalariaDay

Malaria remains a preventable yet deadly global health challenge. According to the World Malaria Report (2025) by the World Health Organization (WHO), there were an estimated 282 million malaria cases and 610,000 deaths globally in 2024, with children and vulnerable groups being the most affected. On this World Malaria Day, Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre joins the global call: “Driven to End Malaria: Now We Can. Now We Must.” Beyond our specialised care, we reaffirm our commitment to community well-being and stand united with global efforts to strengthen public health awareness. Early detection is vital. Recognise the following symptoms: ❖ High fever and chills ❖ Headache and muscle aches ❖ Persistent fatigue ❖ Nausea and vomiting You can significantly reduce the risk of malaria by using insecticide-treated bed nets, keeping your surroundings clean and dry, and seeking prompt medical care if symptoms appear. Together, we can move closer to a malaria-free future. #SKMCH #ZeroMalaria #WMD2026 #NowWeCanNowWeMust

Malaria elimination conversations often focus on what’s missing: we need more funding, more tools, and more pilots. But ChildFund International shows just how much progress is possible when strong community systems, smart digitalization, and trusted local actors come together even with limited resources. In Mamou, ChildFund Guinea helped reach near‑universal coverage of malaria prevention and treatment in recent years. Thanks in part to our efforts, 97% of households now own at least one long‑lasting insecticidal net, up from 46% in 2018. And strong prevention has been matched by faster diagnosis and treatment. 99% of suspected cases in 2025 were tested, leading to a steep decline in malaria-related mortality. Digital solutions have been key. During the 2025 national net distribution campaign, digital tools enabled real‑time monitoring and supervision. This increased daily distribution of nets by 50% or more, showing what’s possible when we invest in community‑first delivery and fit‑for‑purpose digital systems. #WorldMalariaDay #CommunityHealth #DigitalHealth #DoingMoreWithLess

How Does Malaria Become Drug-Resistant? Malaria parasites develop drug resistance through genetic changes allowing survival despite antimalarial treatment. Incomplete medication courses accelerate resistance by eliminating susceptible parasites whilst resistant ones multiply. As World Malaria Day approaches, understanding resistant malaria becomes crucial — travellers to Southeast Asia face the highest risk. Treatment requires knowing infection source and using appropriate antimalarial combinations. Our infectious disease specialists manage complex resistant malaria cases, selecting effective treatments based on travel history and monitoring parasite clearance ensuring cure. Resistance requires specialised treatment approaches. 📞 079 6677 0000 | 🌐 www.kdhospital.co.in #ResistantMalaria #WorldMalariaDay #TravelMedicine #AntimalarialResistance #KDHospital #GlobalHealth

In view of #WMD2026, we reflect on this year’s theme: “Now We Can. Now We Must.” through the words of Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization. He frames this moment as one of possibility where ending malaria is no longer aspirational but within reach, a possibility now echoed in reality as the most affected regions report declining cases, more countries edge closer to elimination, and vaccine rollout gains steady ground across endemic countries. As World Malaria Day approaches, Social Voices joins the global call: the possibility is here. Now we must act. India reports 15,000 malaria deaths annually despite being preventable. Today's World Malaria Day reminds us that behind every statistic is a life lost to inadequate infectious disease management. While malaria deaths have declined globally, India still carries 2% of the world's malaria burden. The gap isn't in awareness—it's in specialist training. Most primary care physicians encounter vector-borne diseases without structured infectious disease expertise. They manage symptoms, not root causes. Young doctors entering this field today face complex challenges: drug-resistant malaria strains, co-infections with dengue and chikungunya, and emerging vector-borne threats from climate change. An infectious diseases fellowship transforms how you approach these cases. You learn systematic vector control, resistance pattern recognition, and outbreak investigation protocols that save communities, not just individual patients. The future of infectious disease control in India depends on specialists who understand both clinical management and public health intervention. Every young doctor who chooses this specialty strengthens our national defense against the next epidemic.
