'Mud everywhere...' That's how Arpana Karki, a Caritas Nepal programme coordinator, described what's left after a Himalayan glacial lake burst its banks on 26 August and buried entire villages. Susan Dabbous, editor at Caritas Internationalis, spoke with her days after the flood. One of the teams got stuck for 18 hours trying to deliver food to Nuwakot. Roads gone, rain pouring, no proper meal since they'd left. When they finally arrived, exhausted, their first question to Arpana was: 'When's the next trip?' She also talked about 56 orphaned children in one village, crammed into a single room. 'They know something has happened, but they haven’t really understood it yet. Perhaps they are still trying to make sense of it all and what it means to be without their parents.'
