I'm pleased to share the preprint of our latest research, submitted to Computational Statistics (Springer Nature), which I co-authored with one colleague. We propose a cross-fitted contamination-aware generalized empirical-Bayes Liu estimator (CF-CABLS-MNL) for multinomial logistic regression. The method integrates robust estimation, empirical-Bayes shrinkage, cross-fitting, and spectral regularization to improve estimation and prediction in the presence of multicollinearity, response misclassification, high-leverage observations, and outliers. Extensive Monte Carlo simulations and repeated analyses on UCI benchmark datasets demonstrate competitive predictive performance and enhanced robustness under simultaneous response and leverage contamination. The results further indicate that response-misclassification correction is beneficial when contamination exists but should not be viewed as universally advantageous. Analyzing stripped Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) binaries without debug symbols has long been one of the toughest bottlenecks in advanced software security and binary analysis. Traditional symbolic execution engines hit a wall against state explosion, while fuzzers struggle to systematically uncover deep concurrency flaws. To tackle this, we’ve developed XEGMAP: Adaptive Symbolic Execution for Race Condition Detection in Binary Programs, which has now been officially published as a pre-print on Research Square: 🔗 Read the full pre-print (here: https://lnkd.in/dNgBFf4J ) What makes XEGMAP different? XEGMAP introduces an adaptive, two-phase framework built on top of angr designed to navigate binaries without requiring source-level semantics: - NEGMAP (Naive Phase): Casts a wide baseline exploration net to monitor for semantic markers and basic block trajectories without getting bogged down in state explosion. - DEGMAP (Directed Phase): Dynamically steers state exploration toward high-value areas of memory interaction. - GMAP Discovery: Prioritizes the identification of Globally Accessed Memory Points (GMAPs)—locations where multiple threads contend for shared memory—applying a hybrid lock-set and happens-before analysis directly at the binary level. In empirical evaluations, XEGMAP achieved massive code coverage (scaling up to 36,755 blocks) and successfully identified up to 360 distinct GMAPs in complex environments without symbol tables.
