Important update for researchers in Switzerland: The SNSF has revised the eligibility criteria for Postdoc.Mobility and Ambizione, both of which will be replaced by a new funding scheme in 2028. The changes are a direct response to a sharp rise in applications — Ambizione received 70% more proposals in 2025 than in 2021, with a current success rate of around 10%. What's changing for Postdoc.Mobility: - Applicants must have Swiss citizenship, a permanent settlement permit, or a degree from a Swiss institution — and must not have previously held a postdoctoral position abroad - Proposals can now be submitted up to 6 months (instead of 9) before the thesis defence What's changing for Ambizione: - Candidates must demonstrate a link with Switzerland (nationality, Swiss degree, or 12+ months of research in Switzerland) - Each contact person (e.g. a professor at the host institution) may only support one applicant Key deadlines to keep in mind: - Final Ambizione deadline: November 2026 - Final Postdoc.Mobility deadline: August 2027 More details and the full regulations are available here: https://buff.ly/LJlTJ9I

What happens when you add one scientist to a research team? New ideas. New perspectives. New discoveries. In 2026, through the HFSP Accelerator Grants, 10 Research Grant teams are doing exactly that: bringing in new expertise and perspectives from across the globe. 🌍 With a focus on countries including India, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Korea, Singapore, and South Africa, the initiative strengthens both scientific collaboration and diversity. A simple idea with a powerful impact: expanding teams to open new paths for discovery. The Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP) Accelerator Grant creates space for early-career researchers to shape ambitious, globally connected science. A New Zealand perspective can add complementary methodologies, diverse biological systems, and fresh ways of framing risk and innovation. Working from the Global South, New Zealand researchers often approach problems with different constraints, cross-disciplinary habits and ways of translating fundamental science. These perspectives can surface assumptions that remain implicit at project conception, opening new questions or alternative experimental pathways rather than simply extending existing ones. The addition of the researcher and their input in HFSP Accelerator projects is therefore not just about contributing expertise but about enriching collaborative thinking adding complementary methodologies, diverse biological systems, and fresh ways of framing risk and innovation. The University of Auckland is already participating on one Accelerator Grant and we welcome further involvement with this scheme.
