In capital markets, better decisions are a competitive advantage, but fragmented data and manual work can slow teams down. Morningstar is showing how AI can bring trusted research, portfolio data, and client context into the flow of work, with governance and investment expertise built in. Advisors can generate research-backed portfolio insights and client-ready materials in minutes. With operational tasks taking up roughly 20–30% of an advisor's day, that can mean more time for clients. That's what AI-powered decision advantage looks like. 🚨 72% of financial advisors say they want more time for prospecting and deepening existing client relationships. Vanguard’s July 2026 survey of 549 U.S. advisors shows that AI adoption is widespread: but still early. Advisors primarily use AI for drafting emails (38%), research (35%), and meeting notes (27%). The leading barrier to broader adoption is compliance and home-office hesitance (37%). “Time spent with clients is the currency of growth for financial advisors,” said Eve Cout of Vanguard. The firm’s research emphasizes that advisors create their greatest value through relationship-oriented services, including behavioral coaching, wealth management, and financial planning. The opportunity is moving from using technology to assist with tasks to using it to automate them. Model portfolios may save advisors more than 400 hours annually, yet 32% still manage portfolios entirely on their own. The real win is not time saved: it is what professionals do with that capacity. Technology should create room for the human work that drives value: judgment, trust, personalization, and stronger relationships. The same principle applies to how business owners run and prepare their companies. AI supports experts. It does not replace relationships.
