Newman's Own Foundation’s Post

Across Guam, young leaders are rediscovering the traditions that have nourished their communities for generations. 🍠   A Newman’s Own Foundation grantee partner since 2022, Guåhan Sustainable Culture cultivates environmental sustainability on Guam through education, engagement, and partnerships. Their Lina’la’ Roots Club brings students back to land and culture through hands-on learning about sustainable agriculture and traditional CHamoru foodways.   Last summer, students explored the CHamoru foodways by cooking with traditional ingredients like lemmai, niyok, and suni, and preparing dishes such as titiyas, kådu, and kelaguen. High school interns, designated as "Che'lu" (siblings), took on leadership roles, leading demonstrations and continuing the work as cultural ambassadors.   As the island continues to recover from April’s Super Typhoon Sinlaku, Guåhan Sustainable Culture remains steadfast. Plans for this summer’s Lina’la’ Roots Club are already underway. 💛   Learn more and support: https://lnkd.in/ebePqSiT #AAPIHeritageMonth #IndigenousFoodJustice #IndigenousFood #TraditionalFood #NativeFood Photo courtesy of Guåhan Sustainable Culture.
