A US Army veteran, Newport News shipbuilder Ajrien Woodley Reed has his sights set on training future generations of shipbuilders. Ajrien Woodley Reed Welding Apprentice Four years at NNS “I did eight years in the Army as a human resources specialist. This is a totally different world, and I love welding, being hands-on. I especially enjoyed welding in the Virginia-class program. I got to weld on a sail for one of the subs, and it was an interesting challenge. My goal, though, is to be a craft instructor or teach at the welding school.”
