Then, Houthi attacks on Red Sea shipping gutted the business case entirely. 1. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐥: — SASINI PLC shipped only 22 containers in FY2025, down from 71 in FY2024, which results to a 69% collapse. — Transit via the 𝐂𝐚𝐩𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐇𝐨𝐩𝐞 doubled journey times, pushing avocados beyond their 50-day shelf life and rendering European arrivals DOA. — CEO Martin Ochieng told shareholders the fruit business was a "write-off" for 2026. 2. 𝐘𝐞𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞'𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝: — Group revenue still rose by 22.5% to Sh8.44 billion in FY2025, with coffee delivering a stunning Sh237.2 million net profit at an average price of $6.19/kg. — The avocado subsidiary recorded losses, but the parent company swung from a Shs 562.9 million loss in FY2024 to a Shs 188 million profit. — Coffee and macadamia nuts were not affected by Suez; they carried the group. 3. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞: — I don't think Sasini is abandoning horticulture. — I think it is accelerating its pivot to Asian markets (China, India) that do not rely on the Suez route. — The company is also divesting a coffee division valued at Sh3.7 billion, classified as "held for sale." — Management is pruning non-core assets, raising cash, and repositioning. 4. 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐀𝐒𝐍: — The stock has rallied on the turnaround story. — But no dividend was declared despite high expectations. — The avocado plant sale will fetch something, but the real value is in the balance sheet cleanup and strategic clarity. — SASINI PLC is becoming a leaner, Asia-focused agribusiness, not a broken one.
