Catastrophe risks are becoming more frequent, severe and interconnected. CatNet® brings together Swiss Re’s NatCat expertise with world-leading partners to redefine how insurers understand and manage these risks. Through collaborations with Fathom, Bellwether (at X, The Moonshot Factory), and One Concern, CatNet® integrates advanced flood, wildfire and business continuity intelligence into one connected platform. The result is a richer, more granular view of risk that helps insurers price with greater precision, strengthen portfolio performance and build long-term resilience across the value chain. 𝙁𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙃𝙖𝙯𝙖𝙧𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙄𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙩: 𝙒𝙝𝙮 𝙈𝙤𝙙𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘼𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙄𝙨𝙣’𝙩 𝙀𝙣𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 When we model hazards, we’re describing what could happen. But impact assessment tells us what that really means for people, assets, and systems. Too often, projects stop at the hazard stage — ground shaking maps, flood depths, return periods — and call it “risk analysis.” In reality, that’s just the beginning. ⸻ 🌍 Hazard ≠ Impact • A 7.0 earthquake in the desert ≠ a 7.0 beneath a dense city • The same flood depth ≠ the same damage in two neighborhoods • The same hazard level ≠ the same recovery path That’s because exposure, vulnerability, and resilience define how a hazard becomes a disaster. ⸻ 📊 Bridging the Gap To make risk analysis truly useful, we must connect: 🔹 Hazard → How strong is the event? 🔹 Exposure → Who and what is in harm’s way? 🔹 Vulnerability → How fragile are they? 🔹 Impact → What are the losses, downtime, and recovery needs? ⸻ 💡 The takeaway: Hazard models tell us where nature may strike. Impact models tell us how society will respond. And resilience begins when we understand both. ⸻ 📣 Are your risk studies connecting hazard and impact? Let’s talk about bridging that gap — from data to decisions. #Resilience #SafetyDesign #EarthquakeEngineering #DisasterRiskReduction #SeismicResilience #RiskAssessment #InfrastructureResilience #BuildingSafety #UrbanResilience #EngineeringForResilience #EarthquakeEngineering To view or add a comment, sign in

Today is the International Disaster Risk Reduction Day (#DRRday) This year’s theme is “Fund Resilience, Not Disasters.” Investing in risk reduction measures pays off. The key is to understand the risks we face, not only the obvious ones, such as frequent floods, but also those that lie ahead. Effective risk analysis and assessment must include a structured foresight process to anticipate emerging and future risks. This week, we will launch the project Future Urban Risks in the Baltic Sea Region. Over the next 18 months, six cities across the Baltic Sea Region, Riga, Tallinn, Klaipėda, Gdansk, Umeå, and Ystad, together with the Union of the Baltic Cities and the Nordic Urban Resilience Institute, will collaborate through a structured foresight process to identify emerging and “beyond-the-horizon” risks from a local perspective. #FundedbySI To view or add a comment, sign in
