🌳 What should shape the future of 6G? For many citizens, the answer is clear: climate 🪸 According to the 6G4Society citizen survey, 4 in 10 people say climate change should be the leading issue shaping the development of future technologies. 🍀 Within SNS JU-funded projects, reducing the environmental impact of advanced connectivity networks and services is built into the design from the outset. For example: 🔸CENTRIC Project is using Artificial Intelligence to adapt network operations in real time, reducing the energy use and CO₂ emissions. 🔸Project EXIGENCE helps reduce the overall energy consumption and carbon footprint of ICT service delivery by better measuring, optimising, and incentivising ICT service consumers to use resources responsibly. 🔸SUSTAIN-6G Project — the sustainability lighthouse of the SNS JU for end-to-end 6G networks — uses ultra-low-power sensors to detect anomalies and activate cameras and drones only when needed. This helps speed up responses to wildfires and other incidents, while keeping energy use low. 👏Together, 6G4Society, CENTRIC Project, SNS BeGREEN Project, 6Green Project, 6G-TWIN, Coalesce Capital, and IN2CCAM — spanning both SNS JU and other Horizon Europe programmes — co-signed an open letter calling for greener 6G through energy-efficient design, renewables, AI optimisation, and cross-sector collaboration. 📖 Read the open letter here: https://lnkd.in/e_CVf9dP Follow us for more on 6G4Society! #SNSJU #6G #6G4Society #Connectivity #Innovation #DigitalEU #XR

Yet, 3GPP (and its ongoing & progressing standardisation of 6G) is not mentioned a single time in the letter. If the intent is that " Future wireless communication systems must be designed with sustainability at their core, accounting for its different facets and leveraging cross-disciplinary methods and technologies ", shouldn't the design of 6G (stage 1 requirements, then stage 2 work on the architecture, interfaces and enablers, .. ) be a clear priority for such needed sustainability focus? (how do the listed research projects articulate their work into 3GPP?)
