WIMR supports the Association of Australian Medical Research Institutes (AAMRI) campaign to release the full Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF). The MRFF was established to provide $1 billion annually to support Australian medical research. Currently, only $650 million is being released, limiting programs, prompting researchers to leave, and slowing critical discoveries. Australian researchers are among the most productive and cost-efficient globally, yet their ability to advance health outcomes is constrained by funding that already exists. In THE LÄND, medical innovation is moving forward🧑🔬 Germany ranks among Europe’s leaders when it comes to medical inventions – and the German Southwest plays a key role in this success 👇 A recent analysis by the European Patent Office, conducted together with the Fraunhofer ISI based in Karlsruhe, found that two research hospitals from Baden-Württemberg are among Europe’s most active clinics in terms of patent filings: Universitätsklinikum Heidelberg (UKHD) and Universitätsklinikum Freiburg. Both rank among the top seven European hospitals with the highest number of patent applications – a clear sign of the region’s strong spirit of medical innovation. The study also showed that the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft ranks third in Europe among public research institutions. According to EPO President António Campinas, this reflects one of Europe’s greatest strengths – public research that enhances the continent’s global competitiveness.
