Recruiter Spotlight: Meet Liz Martin, Managing Director of The Keller Group

At The Keller Group, recruiting is about more than filling roles… It's about building meaningful relationships and supporting people through important career moments and chapters. Managing Director Liz Martin brings that people-first approach to every interaction she has with candidates and clients alike. With years of experience in the executive recruiting and staffing industry and a passion for connecting with others, Liz approaches recruiting with a sense of a deeply relational partnership long-term. In this recruiter spotlight, Liz shares more about her career journey, what motivates her, and the impact she strives to make every day.

What Liz Loves Most About The Keller Group

When asked what she values most about The Keller Group, Liz said the most rewarding part is the opportunity to connect with people from various walks of life. She finds it fascinating to learn about their career journeys, stories, and experiences that each individual brings to the table. “I love having the opportunity to connect with so many unique individuals,” Liz shared. “Everyone has their own story and career path, and it’s truly a privilege to play even a small part in those journeys.” Beyond the relationships she builds with candidates and partnerships with employers, Liz also values the culture within TKG itself. She appreciates working alongside thoughtful, motivated colleagues who share the same commitment to doing meaningful work and supporting one another.

Career Journey & Impact

Liz’s introduction to recruiting started earlier than most. While still a freshman in college, she began working for an aviation mechanic recruiting firm during summer breaks. Her role involved cold-calling aviation mechanics about contract opportunities to repair aircraft across the country - an experience she describes as quite the introduction to the world of recruiting. After graduating, the company opened an Arizona office for her, allowing Liz to continue her career in staffing full time. She later moved into a larger recruiting agency, gaining exceptional experience and perspective within the industry.

Although she stepped away from recruiting for a period of time, Liz eventually felt called back to the profession after meeting with The Keller Group’s founder, Rashin June Keller. That conversation helped her realize that agency recruiting could be done in a way that prioritizes integrity, ethics, and genuine relationships. Liz returned to recruiting in 2020 and has been part of The Keller Group team ever since.

Today, she focuses on building meaningful connections with candidates and clients, viewing recruiting as “a long-term partnership rather than a one-time transaction.” Learn more about our recruiting process by reading our blogs.

Most Meaningful Career Milestones

While Liz has supported various successful placements throughout her career, one experience stands out as especially meaningful. She recalls helping a single mother secure a role that came with a $20,000 increase in compensation - a salary change that significantly improved the candidate’s quality of life. “It was truly life-changing for her,” Liz shared. “Moments like that remind me exactly why I love this career.” For Liz, these types of moments represent the real life impact of recruiting; helping individuals move forward in their careers and providing job opportunities that create lasting positive change.

Building Strong Client Partnerships

Liz also finds great fulfillment in working with employers who genuinely prioritize the candidate experience. Some of her most rewarding moments come when employers go above and beyond to meet a candidate’s expectations, whether that means offering increased compensation, additional flexibility, or meaningful incentives to make someone feel valued. She notes that, “these moments demonstrate how organizations can stand out in a competitive hiring market. When companies recognize talent and act decisively to secure it, everyone benefits.”

Lessons Learned Along the Way

Like many experienced recruiters (The Keller Group has a combined 30+ years of collective recruiting experience throughout our team), Liz has learned that the executive recruiting industry rarely follows a perfectly predictable path. “Recruiting is one of those careers where you truly learn by doing.” Recruiting often involves unexpected turns, shifting circumstances, and new information that requires quick adjustments. Through those experiences, Liz has developed an important guiding principle: never make assumptions.

Instead, she emphasizes the importance of asking thoughtful questions, digging deeper, and understanding the motivations and circumstances on both the client and candidate side. When working closely with people and their careers, clarity and communication are essential. “It’s essential to understand the motives and circumstances on both the candidate and client sides.”

Words of Wisdom

What Motivates Liz Every Day

Liz draws her greatest motivation from her family - especially her three young boys. For her, success represents more than professional achievement, “success means freedom, flexibility, and the ability to provide the best life possible while living a life that feels full and meaningful.” At the same time, Liz is deeply invested in the success of those around her. She strives to show up every day as the best version of herself for her teammates, clients, and candidates alike, ensuring she supports everyone she works with in the best way possible.

The Advice Liz Would Give Her Younger Self

If she could offer guidance to her younger self, Liz would emphasize the importance of confidence and trusting her natural ability to connect with others. “Believe in yourself and in your ability to connect with people, that’s your greatest strength,” Liz said. “Trust the process, stay steady and focused, and remember that consistency and hard work will always lead to success.” She believes that success in recruiting, along with many other careers, comes from persistence, authenticity, and a genuine commitment to helping others.

Top Tips for Candidates and Clients

Liz offers a simple but powerful and practical piece of advice for both job seekers and hiring leaders: pay attention to the details and trust your intuition. “Our instincts are often more accurate than we realize, especially when we take the time to listen,” she said. Whether evaluating a new career opportunity or deciding who to hire, thoughtful reflection and attention to the small details can make all the difference.

Clearing Up a Common Misconception

One misconception Liz often hears is that recruiters are not emotionally invested in the process, that they simply scan resumes and check boxes. In reality, she says, the opposite is true. Liz said, “Great recruiters care deeply about the people they work with and genuinely want the best possible outcome for their candidates. Building strong relationships and supporting people through important career decisions is what makes the profession so rewarding.”

Fun Fact

Outside of recruiting, Liz has a passion for travel. She lived abroad in her twenties, and exploring new countries is absolutely still one of her passions. While international travel has been on pause for a few years with three boys under the age of five, she looks forward to returning to it soon, and eventually sharing that love of travel with her children.

Closing Thoughts

Liz Martin reiterates the relationship-driven recruiting philosophy that defines The Keller Group. Through genuine curiosity, thoughtful communication, and a strong commitment to supporting others to move forward and succeed, she continues to build meaningful partnerships with candidates and clients both. As The Keller Group grows as a trusted recruiting and staffing partner throughout the Phoenix market and beyond, recruiters like Liz play an essential role in shaping that impact - one relationship, one opportunity, and one career chapter at a time.
