Stankeithite from Mexico

X6J-5GKStankeithite Mn2+Mn2+Te4+4 O10

Moctezuma Mine, Moctezuma, Moctezuma Municipality, Sonora, Mexico

Field of View: 3.5 mm

These stacked crystals have been analyzed by Dr. Hexion Yang who determined that they are Stankeithite. Dr. Yang is creating a denningite group that consists of:
Denningite CaMnTe₄O₁₀, Stankeithite Mn²⁺Mn²⁺Te₄O₁₀, Chenzhangruite MnFe²⁺Te₄O₁₀, and Zhaoyuanite MnZnTe₄O₁₀. The clear blades in the picture on the left which turn to a dark brown, then a lighter brown at top right where they are cleaved as they were at the end of the vug. Some of the lighter brown stankeithites near the bottom of the photo avoided damage. Specimen and photo, Chuck Adan.

Field of View: 2 mm

Behind a fractured stankeithite are several nice stacked crystals with both rounded and sharp 90 degree corners on the terminations. This sample was analyzed by Dr. Hexion Yang who determined that it is stankeithite. Dr. Yang was instrumental in creating a denningite group that currently consists of 4 separate species:
Denningite CaMnTe₄O₁₀, Stankeithite Mn²⁺Mn²⁺Te₄O₁₀, Chenzhangruite MnFe²⁺Te₄O₁₀, and Zhaoyuanite MnZnTe₄O₁₀.
