56T-TF0Aguilarite Ag4SeS
La Sirena Mine, Guanajuato, Guanajuato Municipality, Guanajuato, MexicoDimensions: 1.9 cm x 1.0 cm x 0.7 cm
1.9 x 1.0 x 0.7 cm. This is a world-class thumbnail of the rare silver selenide-sulfide, aguilarite. The superb specimen consists of chevron-like crystals which clearly exhibit hopper growth where the crystal edges grew faster than the centers (common in so many Mexican silver species). The color is a dark gray color with a matte finish. The specimen was photographed and illustrated in the Mineralogical Record, May-June 1999, Vol. 30 page 212, fig. 4 in an important article on the locality, and is one of the few verifiable examples of this mineral species that I have ever seen. It is razor sharp. From the noted thumbnail collection of Ron Pellar, by exchange to me long ago.

35P-4K1Aguilarite Ag4SeS
Guanajuato, Guanajuato Municipality, Guanajuato, MexicoDimensions: 1.5 cm x 1.3 cm x 1.1 cm
1.5 x 1.3 x 1.1 cm. Aguilarite is a rare Ag-Se sulfide, a member of the Acanthite Group, with easily the world's finest specimens coming from the historic silver mines at Guanajuato. This is a world-class thumbnail with super form, sharp, hoppered crystals and bright metallic lustre. The dusting of golden chalcopyrite adds character. The piece has a fine provenance, having been in the collection of Dr. Fred Pough, well-known American mineralogist, curator and author (info is on the box it comes in).
1V0-T8NAguilarite Ag4SeS
San Carlos Mine, La Luz, Guanajuato Municipality, Guanajuato, MexicoField of View: 8 cm
Fine specimen of aguilarite crystals, ~4 cm., from the collection of the discoverer of the species, Prof. Ponciano Aguilar (1853-1935). Display specimen at the Eduardo Villaseñor Söhle Museum of Mineralogy, University of Guanajuato, Guanajuato, Mexico. Photographed February 2017.
P3D-6Q4Aguilarite Ag4SeS , Polybasite [Ag6Sb2S7][Ag9CuS4]
Guanajuato, Guanajuato Municipality, Guanajuato, MexicoDimensions: 1.3 cm x 1.1 cm x 0.8 cm
Crystals of aguilarite are completely coated by micro crystals of polybasite. Size: 1.3 x 1.1 x 0.8 cm. Ex Wolfgang E. Henkel collection.
QKL-P6TAguilarite Ag4SeS
San Carlos Mine, La Luz, Guanajuato Municipality, Guanajuato, MexicoDimensions: 2.9 cm x 2.0 cm x 1.4 cm
2.9 x 2.0 x 1.4 cm. Aguilarite is a rare Ag-Se sulfide, with the San Carlos Mine in the Guanajuato district being the Type Locality. This fine, sponge-like cluster consists of a myriad of intergrown, skeletal, pseudocubic crystals that are a metallic grey-green. There are possibly even some acanthite crystals mixed in, which aguilarite is isostructural with. Formerly in the collection of rarities expert Bill Pinch. For what it is, this is a fine thumbnail, and the world's best agularites have come from the historic silver mines at Guanajuato. Analyzed in the Downs lab at University of Arizona, Bill Pinch confirmed this himself some years ago. It comes with his label and an older Burminco label from the 1960s or 1970s. A superb specimen.
