Choloalite from USA
XTV-LU7Choloalite (Cu,Sb)3(Pb,Ca)3(TeO3)6Cl
McAlpine Mine, Peñon Blanco Peak, Coulterville Mining District, Tuolumne County, California, USAField of View: 1 mm
Submillimeter crystals of choloalite on quartz associated with hessite and keystoneite. Specimen has been analyzed. Brent Thorne specimen and photograph.
P4U-JTACholoalite (Cu,Sb)3(Pb,Ca)3(TeO3)6Cl
Joe & Grand Central shafts area dump, Tombstone Mining District, Cochise County, Arizona, USAField of View: 0.65 mm
Group of octahedral choloalite crystals associated with emmonsite, cerussite and jarosite. Brent Thorne specimen and photograph.
VV9-N3FCholoalite (Cu,Sb)3(Pb,Ca)3(TeO3)6Cl , Keystoneite Mg0.5Ni2+Fe3+(Te4+O3)3·4.5H2O , Quartz SiO2
McAlpine Mine, Peñon Blanco Peak, Coulterville Mining District, Tuolumne County, California, USAField of View: 7 mm
Close-up showing dark green choloalite crystals and yellow keystoneite on quartz matrix.
Photographed by, and in the collection of Dan Costian.
7VE-CRTCholoalite (Cu,Sb)3(Pb,Ca)3(TeO3)6Cl
Upper dumps, North Star Mine, Mammoth, Tintic Mining District, East Tintic Mountains, Utah, USAField of View: 0.5 mm
Extremely small, (less than 200 microns), octahedral crystal of choloalite on quartz. Associated minerals, not in the photograph, include, goldfieldite and pyrite. A similar specimen was EDS analyzed by KayGeeDee minerals. I collected this specimen on 10-2-17. Brent Thorne specimen and photograph.
FWA-V1ACholoalite (Cu,Sb)3(Pb,Ca)3(TeO3)6Cl , Quartz SiO2
Upper dumps, North Star Mine, Mammoth, Tintic Mining District, East Tintic Mountains, Utah, USAField of View: 0.92 mm
A single green octahedral crystal of choloalite on a matrix of goethite stained quartz, covered by a very thin glassy film.
Raman spectroscopy performed by Bob Housley matches the RRUFF spectrum for choloalite, however does not quite match similar spectra obtained by Tony Kampf. A single peak was observed on this specimen and the specimen from RRUFF, with three peaks observed by Tony Kampf. This would suggest that this specimen is not well crystallized. The fluids that produced the thin glassy film covering the choloalite and quartz may have altered the crystal structure.
L8F-4PCCholoalite (Cu,Sb)3(Pb,Ca)3(TeO3)6Cl , Goethite Fe3+O(OH) , Quartz SiO2
Upper dumps, North Star Mine, Mammoth, Tintic Mining District, East Tintic Mountains, Utah, USAField of View: 2 mm
A single green octahedron of choloalite on a matrix of quartz. There is an unusual glassy film covering much of the quartz and choloalite. There are also unusual goethite pseudomorphs after an unknown mineral, which appear like rice grains.

CDG-8X9Choloalite (Cu,Sb)3(Pb,Ca)3(TeO3)6Cl , Quartz SiO2
McAlpine Mine, Peñon Blanco Peak, Coulterville Mining District, Tuolumne County, California, USADimensions: 28 mm x 20 mm x 29 mm
Weight: 19.1 g
A small specimen of quartz with a little yellow green choloalite on it. Hessite, Petzite & Electrum are associated. I originally got several larger pieces of the stuff most of which I sold/traded to Forest Cureton who then had it worked on and the mineral Choloalite was named. The scale under the specimens is an inch with a rule at one cm.
UCX-321Keystoneite Mg0.5Ni2+Fe3+(Te4+O3)3·4.5H2O , Choloalite (Cu,Sb)3(Pb,Ca)3(TeO3)6Cl , Quartz SiO2
McAlpine Mine, Peñon Blanco Peak, Coulterville Mining District, Tuolumne County, California, USAField of View: 4 mm
Close-up showing yellow keystoneite associated with green choloalite on quartz matrix. See the entire specimen in the other photo.

Mine dump, Delamar Mine, Delamar Mining District, Lincoln County, Nevada, USAField of View: 435 μm
Extremely rare, brown crystals of adanite associated with light green choloalite (best seen in the child photos) all on a quartz matrix. This specimen was found by Dr. Robert Housley and analyzed by him at Caltech, Pasadena, California. Thank you Bob!
Specimen now with Chuck Adan. Photo by Michael Cox with his Keyence set-up. Thank you Michael!
