Mount Mica Quarry, Paris, Oxford County, Maine, USA

Dimensions: 3.1 cm x 2.1 cm x 2.6 cm

Terminated tourmaline crystal with thin outer surficial zone of black foitite on olive-brown zone of elbaite with internal aqua-blue zone of elbaite series tourmaline. The zoned view of the crystal is polished. The tan coloration may be tourmaline or included material. Although this kind of material was found in the Gary Freeman era of mining, this crystal was obtained in the 1980's and presumably was found in the Hamlin-Merrill era of mining, probably in 1903-1905.
