OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #357

A quick and very late Monday Night edition of the new music weekly. Most likely missed a lot of good music.

Turner Cody & the Soldiers of Love made the album of the week. Also very fond of the Melissa Carper & Theo Lawrence collaboration. Other album gems this week came from John Craigie, Music City, Ratboys, Asher White (Jessica Pratt cover album), Queen Esther, Railcard and Hazel City.

From the Finnish side of things we have albums from Michael Bleu and Vellamo plus singles from Susanna Leppänen, RauTamo, Madame T & Siniset Veljet, Verneri Pohjola and Lovers Left Alive.

Hiding Places made the international single of the week, because they are new to me and I love finding new bands. Great song. I need to investigate more. Other early faves came from Anna Tivel, Jackie West, The Goods, Uni Boys, Daniel Romano’s Outfit, Levi Minson, Charlotte Cornfield, The Motorists… again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. I’ll try to do a better job next weekend and fix the possible holes I failed to cover this week. Love.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #356

Still a bit of a slump with the recorded music and I haven’t done any deep dives into it. I went to see live music three nights in a row though and that was special and gave me a big boost. Go and see Toinen Maisema, M.I.Laine, Henri Seger and Sweatmaster if you have a chance. But here’s the new music that was on my radar.

Christo Graham made he album of the week. Another big one for me is the Charlie Whitten EP. Other gems came from Alissa Arnason, Emily Scott Robinson, James McCann, Meels (EP), Ole Kirkeng, Hank Bee (EP), Cordovas, Randy Ross (EP), Lande Hekt, GUV, Barney Cortez, Bill Janovitz and Nathan K.

The big Finnish one is the new Sweatmaster album. This blog doesn’t go to the garage rock territory that often, but I’ve always loved Sweatmaster. New album rules of course. We also have albums from Felix Alexander Lybeck, RULES and Einar Lind (this one is a comp of rarities / lost tracks). Some great singles too from Hanhani, Maustetytöt, Kari Tapiiri, Vellamo, Kuusumun Profeetta, Egotrippi, Antti Autio, Silja Palomäki, Finding Jens Hortling and Jack’s Basket Room.

International single of the week is the new on from St. Yuma. I really loved their previous album and it was on my top 10 a few years back. New album is out in March and this first single sounds marvellous. Other early favorites came from Stripmall Ballads, Michael Cormier-O’Leary, John R. Miller, Sluice, Hailey Davis and Corey Parsons. And of course I love that Bruce Springsteen and Billy Bragg released powerful protest songs.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. Next weekend I have family-related things on Saturday and then Super Bowl on Sunday, so it’s possible that this new music weekly won’t be online before Monday evening. Sorry in advance for the possible delay. Love.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #355

Another week, another new music weekly. Still in a bit of a slump when it comes to this new music curation, so probably missed a ton of new stuff.

Dana Sipos made the album of the week. Also love that Lucinda Williams made a protest album and it also makes a lot sense that it’s not on Spotify. If more of these bigger artists keep their new stuff away from there it might make a difference. T. Gold album is another one that is both wonderful and not on Spotify. Other album releases this week came from Greg Weeks, The Glass Hours, Natalie Prauser, The Lowest Pair, Nicholas Campbell, Della Mae, Sophie Gault, Fazed on a Pony, Mink’s Miracle Medicine, The Bedbugs (EP) and European Sun.

The big ones on the Finnish side of this are great new albums from Ylva Haru and Rami Helin Presents. Also very fond of the new Anis Kiitu single. Other Finnish releases this week are EP from Litku Klemetti and singles from Self Rising Flour, Pambikallio, Saimaa and Vellamo. There’s also a gorgeous new Salaliitto single Asteriski, but so far only Bandcamp. It will be streaming (won’t be on Spotify) starting Tuesday, so you’ll find it from the next episode.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #354

Still sort of searching for the energy for another year of music curation and I haven’t paid enough attention to new music. So I’m sure there’s stuff missing, but here’s what I managed to put together.

Courtney Marie Andrews made the album of the week. One of my long time favorites and maybe you could already say all-time favorites with another wonderful album. Another big one for me is the Logan Farmer album and then there’s also new ones from Jana Horn, Sunday Mourners, Sam Blasucci (EP/Movement), James Hunter Six, The Sha La Das and Rubber Band Gun.

The Finnish music year is also off to a strong start. Absolutely love the new Teini-Pää album. It sets the bar really high for 2026. That one is not on Spotify, so check it out on other streamers or better yet, buy a physical copy. I did just that yesterday at 8raita. We also have other great Finnish albums from Luhtaniitty, Matti Johannes Koivu and Raivo Jackson. Some singles gold too from Anna Inginmaa, Michael Bleu, Jere Ijäs and Vellamo.

New Natalie Jane Hill can be the international single of the week. Other early faves came from Charlotte Cornfield, Julianna Riolino, Cut Worms.. again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. Hopefully I snap out of his hibernation next week and start to listen more. Until then.
