Insights Benchmarking

The SSP Compensation and Benefits Benchmarking Study is an annual global survey that gathers data on wages, compensation, benefits, policies, and skills from individuals working in scholarly communications and their organizations. The survey and its results are available on SSP’s Insights Platform. This study is a valuable resource for professionals and organizations in the scholarly publishing industry, helping them make informed decisions about compensation and career growth.

This study is a valuable resource for anyone in the scholarly publishing community. The more people participate, the more accurate and informative the results will be. We encourage individuals to complete the survey that applies to them and share the organizational survey information with the right person at their workplace. By sharing your data, you’ll help create fair, research-based compensation standards that benefit the whole industry.

Individuals and organizations who completed the 2024 survey are eligible to participate in the 2025 survey as well. Retaking the survey gives you access to the latest dataset, providing up-to-date insights into your professional environment. Respondents who completed last year will be able to import their data for updates.

How to Participate

The study consists of two surveys, one for individuals and one for organizations. The data collection period is October 1 – March 31, 2026. Reports will be available starting February 2026. Learn more about each study by clicking the buttons below.

If your organization would like to participate in the study, you first need to designate an authorized user for your organization. Typically, the best person to complete the survey is someone with sufficient access to benefits and compensation data across the organization.

Individual participants will receive a downloadable report comparing their responses to select data points to the aggregate responses with similar job titles (i.e., level and area) at no charge if they complete all required questions and a minimum of 60% of the survey.   Organizations will receive an executive summary of the aggregate data submitted by other organizations at no charge if they complete all required questions and a minimum of 60% of the survey.

Submit your survey by December 31, 2025, so we can share timely findings to aid individuals and organizations for the coming year.
