While over ** percent of respondents stated that they bought and collected trading cards for the purpose of collecting, the consideration as an investment in hopes of future price increases followed as the second most named reason.
Trading cards are a major segment of Japan's toy market. The segment grew rapidly in the last decade, as rare prints of series like Pokémon Trading Card Game were in demand as an alternative investment asset.
