The UM academic year commences every October but you can apply online from the previous November for your preferred course. Another intake, on a smaller scale, is held in February.
The majority of Master's degrees by Research and all Doctoral Degrees (except for the Doctorate of Pharmacy degree) have more than one entry point. Prospective applicants can apply at any time during the year. As part of the application process, applicants are required to submit a research proposal.

Applications for October 2026 are now available online. The deadline is 22 July 2026 at 14:00.
The deadline for non-EU applicants requiring a visa to travel to Malta is 1 July 2026 at 14:00.
Doctor of Medicine and Surgery
The closing date for receipt of applications from applicants presenting overseas qualifications and degrees awarded by institutions other than the University of Malta is 30 January 2026 at 14:00. Certificates from UK examining boards are considered as overseas qualifications.
Applicants presenting qualifications considered local (e.g., IB, EB, or the Matriculation Certificate awarded by MATSEC), who shall be presenting the Medical Maltese Proficiency Certificate instead of a SEC pass in Maltese (in accordance with the Admissions Regulations), should submit their application by 16 March 2026 at 14:00.
