2020 marked the beginning of a decisive global push to deliver on the 2030 promise—mobilizing governments, civil society, businesses, and people everywhere to take ownership of the Global Goals.

Decade of Action to deliver the Global Goals

Today, progress is being made in many areas, but overall efforts remain insufficient in speed and scale. The Decade of Action underscores the urgent need for accelerated, coordinated, and transformative action to achieve the Goals by 2030.

The Decade of Action calls for scaling up sustainable solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges —including poverty, gender inequality, climate change, widening disparities, and the persistent financing gap.

In 2025 with five years to go to meet the 2030 deadline, the UN Secretary-General called on all sectors of society to intensify action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. He stressed that progress is the result of deliberate policy choices, sustained investment, and collective leadership by governments, civil society, youth movements, women’s organizations, and the private sector. The SDGs are most effective when pursued together: education advances gender equality, climate action safeguards food systems, and ending hunger helps build lasting peace. Their interconnected nature means progress in one area accelerates progress in others — and momentum must continue to build.

From global institutions to local communities and individual action, all sectors of society must mobilize to sustain an unstoppable movement that delivers the transformations required for a sustainable, just, and resilient future by 2030.
