This has always been a subject that I listen to and know but have not practiced. It is not honoring to God when I use the resources He has given me and giving back to him. Last year around this time our pastor preached on finances and I thought, okay, I can start saving but still avoided tithing.
Fast forward to today. My daughter just got her first paycheck from her first job. Her dad and I both agree she should tithe 10%, save 10% and use the rest for whatever she wants. Today though, I couldn’t tell her to tithe because I am not setting the example and God convicted me strongly of this as I am living for money but not for God, by not honoring him in this way.
Our pastor shared this passage from Philipians while Paul was in prison, “I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.” 4:12-13 NIV, this passage is saying that no matter what we need to put our trust in God as he is able to provide for all our needs.
I will have to make some mind set changes but going forward plan to tithe the first 10% to God.
