Stahovica Quarry, Stahovica, Kamnik, Slovenia

Field of View: 0.2 mm

The microstructure of marbles:
Polygonal aggregates of calcite in an extremely fine-grained marble from marble quarry Stahovica, Kamnik.

Ultrathin section manufactured by Günter Grundmann. The thin section has been ground and polished on both sides much thinner than usual, namely to about 0.015 mm thickness (= 15 μm). Base of photo 0.2 mm.

Field of View: 0.2 mm

The microstructure of marbles:
Polygonal aggregates of calcite in an extremely fine-grained marble from marble quarry Stahovica, Kamnik. The deformation twins and grain boundaries are visible as single dark lines.

Ultrathin section manufactured by Günter Grundmann. The thin section has been ground and polished on both sides much thinner than usual, namely to about 0.003 mm thickness (= 3 μm). Greyish colours are off-colours caused by quartz compensator. Base of photo 0.2 mm.
