23 hours…and counting every second!

That’s right, Rick and I board our plane tomorrow afternoon. This vacation has been long anticipated. I am just besides my self with excitement. I think the idea of not working for 2 weeks is what I am most thrilled about. However, seeing so many members of both families is something I am also looking forward to. It’s been too long, especially for Rick. I am excited to tuck my toes into the sand, hear the ocean waves and hold my new niece. The weather has been crummy around these parts as of late; lots of rain. There has been so much pollen in the air, too. It’s so intense, I have been wiping off a very think layer of yellow “dust” from every single piece of furniture in every single home I clean, these past two weeks. I have never seen such a thing.

On Wednesday night, after Rick and I were in bed and the lights were out, he leaned over and whispered in my ear, “Happy Found-her’s day, Babe!” Wow, that’s right! One year has passed since I met Rick, that Monday night, at his parents house. I remember it as if it were yesterday!

::: cough cough, sniff sniff :::

I have been using a lot of these lately:

The wicked cold has struck again! So, I have been sick for six days now. Seriously, who has time for this? I love the Puffs with Vick’s vapor rub. (Strokes of genius!) They are so soft and they help me breathe. It’s like stickin’ a jar of Vick’s right at your nose. They are a nice back up when I don’t have time for this:

State Line Grocery

Friday Night:

Vanessa: “Hey Rick, what should we do tomorrow?”

Rick: “Well, we can wash the cars. We have those tickets to that barbershop chorus…”

Vanessa: “Oh yeah… what time does that start?”

Rick: “I’m not sure, 7, 7:30?”

Vanessa: “Well, did you want to go? ”

Rick: “Sure…I mean hey, FREE tickets…why not!”

Vanessa: “Yeah, I am all about free and if it’s totally lame, we can leave and go rent a movie or something.” Continue reading

Cool Cucumber Salad

The weather here has been nothing but miserable the past few days; hot, humid and hazy. (UPDATE: there is a TORNADO watch until 6 p.m. tonight! Wow…tornadoes in Vermont, that’s exciting!) I have been trying to prepare meals that don’t require the stove top or oven. I am head over hills for this recipe! This one is a keeper! It’s low in calories, yet so refreshing. This recipe is found in the Joy of Cooking cookbook.

Spring Cleaning

Just a few tips to ease your cleaning routine around the house. These are some common questions I have answered in the past. Just passing on good info:

  • WINDOWS: Add a drop of dish soap to a bucket of warm water (or in a squirt bottle) to clean the windows inside and outside of your home. Use a squeegee to clean the surface. This will work better than Windex (or Glass Plus) and paper towels, which can leave streaky residues on windows and we know that’s no good!
  • HARD WATER ON GLASS SHOWER DOORS: Use toilet bowl cleaner. I just squirt some on a sponge, wipe and rinse! I like to clean the shower when I am in the shower. It’s more effective and less messy!
  • DUSTING: I rarely dust higher than my arm can reach. If I can’t reach it, chances are, people can’t see it.
  • ODOR: Baking Soda in the fridge is a given but it also helps remove odors from plastic containers and my rubber spatulas that sometimes hold the smell of onions or garlic. Continue reading
