Boating, Blueberries and Homemade Jam

Some dear friends of ours took pity on us and took us out for a couple of hours on their boat this past weekend.  Wait, let me get this story straight, we sat in the boat, at the dock for 1.5 hours, then we were on the water for about 1.5 hours.  It was loads of  fun to be on Lake Champlain, in a boat, with Rick. I haven’t been on a boat in FOREVER.  These friends even brought their picnic baskets, loaded with gourmet cheeses and crackers, kielbasa, grapes, cherries, sushi ::: be still my beating heart ::: and some other delish food. And there was no way I was going to divulge the fact that we had just eaten dinner in the car, on our way there.  Rick and I were all about MORE FOOD, especially this kind!  We headed out on the lake right after the sun set.

Girl’s Camp 2008 at “Camp Joseph”

Yeah…they called me to be the Girl’s Camp Director in my church this year. That’s right, 4.5 days in the woods with 11 teenyboppers! I was excited and stressed. They are great girls, and some came loaded with iPods and cell phones, not to mention flip flops. (I have to impart that the aforementioned items were all “prohibited”…that is, they were asked not to bring these items to camp. What’s a camp leader to do, send around a bag and collect the belongings?!) At any rate…it was a big job. I was in charge of the menu planning/meals, a few crafts, the camp gear and whatever else you gotta do to plan Girl’s camp. We camped at “Camp Joseph” which is situation just a few hundred yards from the Joseph Smith Birthplace Memorial. There is a very special spirit at Camp Joseph!

A Return to Lake Placid

Rick and I decided to get away for the weekend with the Smiths and their yard apes. We headed to Lake Placid. They (Rick and Justin) are between rotations this weekend, so now was our chance to get away before they were both on-call on a Saturday or Sunday. They don’t get out enough, and frankly, we just feel bad for them!!! ::: wink wink ::: Lake Placid is close enough to just spend one or two days there, and see it all.

In front of the Lake Placid Welcome sign…in our attempt to recreate what we did 8 months ago, although this time I was not tripping in 18 inches of snow…as I dashed from the camera, into Rick’s arms. Unlike last time, the weather was premium this weekend! Continue reading

California: Chapter Six

A Huntington Beach Stake musical production.

We started an exciting Independence Day in the morning. We drove to Huntington beach to see a stake musical production. All of the songs were patriotic and it was very entertaining. Young and old participated in this 25 year tradition. (I believe it's been 25 years.)

California: Chapter Four

Monday, Rick and I dropped off Henry and my mom in Malibu, just short of the waves. We then high-tailed it to the Getty Villa in Malibu for an afternoon of art, sculpture and of course, playing with a camera lense I rarely use!
