The Last Leg…

Our time in Pennsylvania was so…so interesting.  We saw a lot of great things, enjoyed some really incredible MEXICAN FOOD (that I seriously can’t stop thinking about,) and we visited with family and friends.  What a great trip!

Gettysburg

Allegedly, this is where the Philly Cheese Steak originated in the 1930’s!  Read all about it here!

I think I am ready to head to North or South Carolina.  The only Southern state I have visited is Georgia…and it was WAY too humid for me there…is there any hope in the NC and SC??  I hear they have large wrap-around porches and that people actually sit in rocking chairs, sipping their herbal teas.  I like the image that is painting in my head.  Would any of you live there?  Have any of you lived there?  Inquiring minds want to know…

A little side note about that Mexican Restaurant.  I have to put this out there.  This place was the biggest dive.  Rick and I knew that was a good sign.  We walked into the dark, one room restaurant and waited to be seated.  A young Mexican lad was sitting at a table, facing the television that was secured in the top corner of the room.  The music videos blared as he munched on his taco.  Our waitress then came out and barely  spoke a lick of English.  Yes, another GREAT SIGN!  I was so excited about this place because, not only because we had a $25.00 gift certificate that I payed only two dallah for, but because the tacos were like 2 bucks! And there tortillas were home made, and their guacamole was incredible, and the pinto beans were perfect, and the cheese was fresh and the fajitas were HUGE and so were the gorditas.  All of it..simply amazing!  I have NEVER had food like this before…ten times better than Cafe Rio….that’s not really Mexican though.  If you are EVER in Philadelphia and you want good Mexican food, I can’t emphasize enough, how you must go there!!! It’s only a few miles from the King of Prussia Mall.   All this talk about Mexican food is making me VERY HUNGRY!!

December 31st, 2008 was an eventful day for Rick and Vanessa!  We spent our morning driving past some Universities in Philadelphia.  Some were in the GHETTO and others were right downtown.  We both decided there was no way we would be spending 6 years in Philadelphia.  It was a great place to visit! Hershey

Pennsylvania…is the sweetest place on earth!  Nestled just 15 miles East of Harrisburg, Hershey is home to only 15,000 people.  It’s neither a city, a village, a borough or a township, but simply a census-designated place!   Yeah, awesome huh!  (Rick thought it would be fun to live in a “Borough”, and I thought it to be dreamy to live in a “township”….while we’re on the subject, Pennsylvania is a Commonwealth, not a state, as is Massachusetts, Kentucky and Virginia. I learned so much! )  I see it as a great Family Vacation Destination! You can read all about what Hershey has to offer HERE. I think the pictures are self explanatory, so enjoy a little photo tour of Hershey, Pennsylvania:hershey-welcome-sign

Intercourse, Blue Ball, Fertility…

are names of cities in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and home to many of the Amish.  Rick and I took a week off and headed to PA to check out some residency programs.  The highlight of the trip, for me, was driving through Amish communities. I can’t stop thinking about it.

Our journey started as we headed north on route 322 from route 30.  Suddenly, in just yards, all of the traffic and tourist traps disappear and you’re out in the real countryside.  It happens so fast. It’s hard to imagine that you are only a 1/2 hour from shopping centers/restaurants/highways when you feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere!  There is a quietness that hovers over Amish communities.  This was the first sign we were entering an Amish town:
