My Christmas was mainly marvelous because Rick came home at 9:30 am. I wasn’t expecting him until 8 p.m.! For that reason, it was a perfect day!

Grandma J, we love the dress!  We think Bridgette looks so cute in it. Thank you SO much!

Bridgette managed to only miss 30 minutes of Christmas day!

(A 30 minute nap, all day. Seriously?)

She didn’t want to miss a thing!

Rick scored some beautiful Japanese cuff links.

They are really cool and I am already envisioning what tie he should wear with them!

Thank you for the awesome set of church books! They are so lovely.

Now, we just need to read them. (Along with the set you gave us a few years ago.)

Janna, I LOVE the shawl!  I seriously almost cried. It is GORGEOUS and was really meaningful to me, even if it was “Made in China!” It is awesome.

(The grapefruit candy rocked as well. All the candy rocked!)

Bridgette is working on her stocking here, and whatever came out of the stocking went straight in her mouth.

Dana and Kevin, we loved the gifts!  Cara, we LOVE that movie series!  SO awesome. We are really excited about that.

Bridgette just loves the puppet from Granny & Grampy Great!  She snuggles it and giggles. It’s really sweet!

B got some board books from us this year, along with a potty.

Rick says she “wrapped this all by herself!” 😉  I will probably add this little B charm to my necklace that has the R on it.

Bridgette just checking out my loot. She likes the cookie and ice cream scoop! (Which I will be using as a muffin scoop.)

Opening our loot from Japan!  I loved the paper and the fun Japanese treats!

Is this not the CUTEST little Japanese outfit for the B??  I can’t wait to get her in it.

It was a beautiful day with family. I love when Christmas is on Sunday. I wish it was every year!

Our church service was beautiful, and I overheard the people behind us say, as Bridgette was peeping over our shoulders and smiling at the old folks behind us:

“Is that a little girl or a boy?”

“Why, I think it’s a boy!”

“Well, he’s wearing a bow, so it’s probably a girl!”

BWHAHAHA!

And last, but NOT least…I gifted some sock garters to Rick.

He says he’s “embracing his inner old man.”

I say he’s bringing SEXY BACK!

Thanks again to everyone.  We love you!

Merry Christmas!

Christmas Eve

We we blessed to have a few invitations for dinner on Christmas Eve!

We have such wonderful friends here in Madison.

Dinner was simple. Amazing.  Clam Chowder and Lentil Soup with bread.

The children put on a Nativity Marionette puppet show for the guests and it was so incredible! We read from Luke 2 and sang Christmas songs. It was a simple yet special evening for us. We enjoyed ourselves and wonder how we can ever return the favor. They were wonderful hosts!

Christmas Tree at the State Capitol

There was a heated debate in Madison about this “Christmas Tree.”  A LAME debate if you ask me.

For the past few years it has apparently been called a “HOLIDAY TREE.”

Oh brother, PLEASE!

::: rolls eyes :::

(Have we completely taken CHRIST out of Christmas?)

Many feel it’s taboo to mix religion and politics, but seriously?!

“I just don’t see why it makes sense to insult people’s intelligence by calling a Christmas tree a holiday tree when everybody knows it’s a Christmas tree,” Steineke said. (Ya, don’t insult my intelligence!)

Governor Walker said,

“It’s a Christmas Tree folks, not a Holiday Tree so that’s what we’re calling it!”

AMEN!

(Nice work, Governor Walker.)

On a happier note, the tree was decorated by school children from all over Wisconsin and the theme  of the tree is 163 Years of Wisconsin’s Veterans.

Cincinnati Ohio

Rick had the privilege of working the day after Thanksgiving, so we drove the 100 miles back home, only to turn around 36 hours later and return to Kenosha for the weekend!

This is Rick’s brother, Kevin. He is single, available, a law student and lives in Tucson, AZ.

We play many games when we visit! (Since there isn’t much snow on the ground, yet!)

I love Christmas Bingo!!!

From Kenosha, we traveled long and far to visit our friends in Cincy.

A much-needed pit stop after hours of driving.

(I am ga-ga over this pic of baby B…she has such an admiration for her papa!)

This little B did great the entire trip!  She really is a good baby. She has a pretty calm personality.

I would say she is very mellow, observant, easy going, and generally warms up to strangers after a few warm smiles from them.

We arrived after 5 hours of driving.  Ben and Annie were our neighbors in Vermont and we’ve missed them so much!

They were such perfect hosts because we felt right at home.  It is such a great feeling to be a guest in someone’s home, yet feel like you can open the fridge and drink from the milk carton. (Just kidding Annie, we never did that!)

Rick studied ALL DAY, EVERY DAY we were there, while Annie and I spent time doing this:

and this:

and spending 90% of our indoor time in the kitchen cooking lasagna, enchiladas, chicken pot pie, chicken and broccoli with pasta, chocolate bran muffins, not to mention Ben’s birthday cake!

Is that little Shiloh not the cutest thing EVER!?  (After Bridgette, of course!)

The ladies in the house:

It was such a lovely visit and I look forward to the next time!

I can’t tell you any thing about Cincinnati, except that our friends live there.

We never made it downtown, but I’m OK with that. The point was to visit with friends and see their new baby boy! (He’s a handsome little guy!)

Bridgette had such a blast!

Thank you again, Ben and Annie!

Until next time!

Thanksgiving Weekend

Wow, it’s been almost 2 months since my last post!

The break from blogging is always great and we’ve been one busy family lately!

We traveled to Kenosha, WI to spend Thanksgiving Day with my sister-in-law and her family.

Uncle Rick likes to talk science with our nephew, Benton. Bridgette just cheers them on!

(They’re looking at Benton’s blood under his little microscope. Eww.)

My sweet sister-in-law, Cara, prepared a traditional Thanksgiving meal and it was delicious!

Her husband comes home from Afghanistan soon, and we are so excited for her and her children.  He’s been gone 8 or so months!

She’s learned the game of football so she could teach her boys to be boys, she’s had to clear a clogged pipe with a 30 ft snake, she’s had to deal with appliances breaking, etc. Not to mention: shovel snow, mow the yard, rake billions of leaves, make meals, carpool the children everywhere, keep her children from killing each other, and keep the house spick ‘n span because it’s on the market. How this woman does it all, is a mystery, but we sure LOVE HER and support her best we can.

Uncle Kevin and Uncle Rick playing a round of checkers

Bridgette enjoyed her helping of Turkey dinner. It was her first go at a piece of meat. She gnawed, but mainly enjoyed the vegetables.

And Miss Mia put together a slide show of the day’s events, so her dad wouldn’t miss out on a thing!

It was a perfect day!

Family Night

We took a stroll through the Holiday Fantasy in Lights.

I like that it was free.

I like that it was about 5 minutes to drive through the entire thing.

And I like that Bridgette could sit on my lap and see the lights.

It was a lovely little outing before Christmas!
