Summary
Established in 1960 through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, the Middle East Center was created to coordinate an interdisciplinary program of Middle East language and area studies at the University of Utah. Dr. Aziz Atiya was the first director, followed by professors Khosrow Mostofi and Lee Bean in 1967 and 1983, respectively. This collection consists of memoranda, reports, and budgets from the files of the founder of the Middle East Center, Aziz Atiya, and his successor, Khosrow Mostofi. Principal subjects covered are Center administration, budget proposals, technical reports, study abroad programs, and seminars sponsored by the Center.
