Every two minutes, a woman dies from complications related to pregnancy or childbirth. Millions more are denied access to the sexual and reproductive health services they need — or the power to make informed decisions about their bodies and futures.

More midwives could change that.

One Million More is calling on governments and health leaders to invest in one million more midwives — and we’re building a movement to demand it.

Through a global petition — with a major advocacy push on the International Day of the Midwife and a final reveal at the 34th ICM Congress on 18 June 2026 — we’re building public pressure, growing our movement, and delivering the signatures directly to global leaders.

Midwives save lives, protect rights, and provide trusted care. But they need investment, autonomy, and support to do their jobs — and right now, there simply aren’t enough of them. Together, we can change that.
