IMO –
the International Maritime Organization – is the United Nations specialized agency with responsibility for the safety and security of shipping and the prevention of marine and atmospheric pollution by ships. IMO's work supports the UN sustainable development goals.
International efforts to curb greenhouse gas emissions from shipping took a step forward as the Intersessional Working Group on Reduction of GHG Emissions (ISWG-GHG 18) concluded its latest round of discussions.
A regional training course designed to strengthen the implementation of IMO treaties in African Member States has concluded in Tunis, Tunisia.
IMO’s Sub-Committee on Human Element, Training and Watchkeeping has agreed on draft interim generic guidelines for training seafarers working on ships powered by alternative fuels and new technologies.
