LibreOffice 5.0 was released last week and it includes numerous changes, such as UI improvements, better HiDPI support, new icon theme by KDE called Breeze, much improved Spreadsheet, better filters for documents and more. For a complete list of changes, see THIS page.

A week ago, the Xubuntu team members were asked to vote if Xubuntu 15.10 should drop GIMP, Abiword and Gnumeric and include LibreOffice by default.

LibreOffice 4.2, the recently released major update to the default Ubuntu office suite, is now available in its main official PPA, for Ubuntu 13.10 and 12.04. Below you'll find instructions on how to upgrade to this new version using the PPA.

The Document Foundation has released LibreOffice 4.2 today, which "features a large number of performance and interoperability improvements targeted to users of all kinds, but particularly appealing for power and enterprise users".

It looks like LibreOffice will get a new set of flat icons, based on Gnome's symbolic icons. The icon set isn't completed yet, but you can try it already - below you'll find instructions on how to easily try the new icons.

The Document Foundation has released LibreOffice 4.0 today, which, according to the official announcement, is the "first release that reflects the objectives set by the community at the time of the announcement, in September 2010: a cleaner and leaner code base, an improved set of features, better interoperability, and a more diverse and inclusive ecosystem".
