UAE’s Yolk Brands Expands to Jordan, Bringing Pickl and BonBird to Amman UAE-born Yolk Brands, the group behind Pickl and BonBird The Chicken Shop, has announced its entry into Jordan, marking a new milestone in its international growth strategy. In partnership with Al Maysarah Holding Company, the expansion will see eight restaurants open across Amman over the next two years — three Pickl and five BonBird outlets. Since launching in Dubai in 2019, Yolk Brands has scaled to 45+ locations globally, with Pickl operating in Bahrain, Qatar, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia, and BonBird expanding into Qatar, Oman, and Pakistan, ahead of its UK debut. Founder and CEO Stephen Flawith said the move reflects the company’s commitment to connecting cultures through food. “Jordan’s energy and culture make it the perfect gateway as we connect the GCC with Europe and continue scaling our homegrown brands globally,” he noted. First Hammour Harvested in Sharjah by Asmak Al Emarat Asmak Al Emarat proudly announces the successful harvest and live sale of the first Hammour (Epinephelus coioides) ever produced in the Emirate of Sharjah. This marks a key milestone for both the company and the region, showcasing Sharjah’s entry into high-value native fish production through sustainable aquaculture. The fish were harvested after 11 months of rearing under controlled conditions, reaching an average weight of 885 grams. This pilot cycle confirms the potential for land-based Hammour farming and reinforces Asmak’s commitment to local food security and environmental sustainability in the UAE. Is this the beginning of the end? For years, restaurants in emerging markets have lived with one painful truth: delivery costs more than rent. But ,Dubai took a bold step that could rewrite the rules of food delivery everywhere. This isn’t a side issue. It’s the biggest survival challenge for operators today. Yes, today the headlines are about aggregator fee hikes. But what Dubai did last week go beyond pricing - it’s a blueprint that could reset the entire delivery ecosystem. The Dubai Shockwave Dubai rolled out bold rules for food delivery apps: Clear, capped commissions No exclusivity traps Restaurants get their own data Platforms can’t push in-house brands over partners On paper, it looks like regulation. In reality, it’s a blueprint for balance. The Pain in Emerging Markets In India, Africa, and Southeast Asia, the delivery economy has scaled fast - but often at the cost of restaurants: Commissions eat 20–35% of sales. Hidden fees push margins into the red. Data stays with platforms, not the operators. Platform-owned cloud brands compete with their own clients. As an operator, I’ve watched QSRs bleed lakhs every month on these models. For some, delivery became less of an opportunity and more of a trap.
