Today, I witnessed the signing of an MoU between Nigeriaโs Dar Al Halal Group Ltd and Egyptโs Future Authority for Sustainable Development, a major stride in transforming agriculture through land reclamation, mechanization, and sustainable technologies. One of the defining outcomes of the #NigeriaEgyptBusinessForum. Dar Al Halal is a forward-looking Nigerian agribusiness company, while Egyptโs Future Authority is spearheading one of North Africaโs largest sustainable land reclamation and food production programmes. This partnership will foster cooperation in land reclamation, modern irrigation, mechanization, and sustainable agricultural technologies.

#Oman and #India are on the verge of signing a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement #CEPA. The CEPA Will be one of Oman's major economic partnerhsip agreements after the US-Oman FTA. The agreement will be a wider scope compared to the FTA, and will include elements of investment, government procrument, and labor dynamics to name a few. Local media coverage has been sparse and quite uninformative. Much of the media discussion has been happening on the Indian side. Here is our early analysis of potential outcomes from the #tariff perspective only. This is by no means comprehensive or deep enough, but acts as an eye opener. Using the World Bank's #WITS AHS Simple Average data some early projections can be made. What does the chart tell us. ๐Oman's tariffs are significantly less across the broad HS classifications. India's protection of some key sectors such as food, animal and consumer goods is significantly higher than that of Oman. ๐Lower tariffs across the board will allow for more Omani products to penetrate the Indian market (all other things equal). However, the assumption here is that protection on Indian side is reduced sufficently to make it viable. ๐Tariff structure alone will not determine the outcome of trade flow, as other considerations will take precedence such as existing patterns and market demand. There will be opproutnities for both sides to catalyze more trade despite the economic size difference. However, we need to be mindful of the economic strcutures and capacities of both economies.
