Open Science
We believe that science should be shared as widely as possible, and AIP Publishing actively supports sustainable models of access to research that ensure the permanence, discoverability, and reuse of published work.
Looking Back on Open Access Week 2025
Open Access Week is a global celebration of open science—sharing knowledge freely and fairly to help advance scientific discovery. At AIP Publishing, we’re committed to breaking down barriers so researchers everywhere can access and share the latest advances in the physical sciences. Open science isn’t just a goal, it’s our mission.

Watch the recordings of two engaging webinars:
During Open Access Week, we hosted two fascinating panel discussions exploring what the future holds for open science. The first webinar focused on politics and technology in the context of knowledge ownership, whilst the second webinar explored the question of knowledge sovereignty in the Global South. Public Access - no embargo, no cost
AIP Publishing provides multiple paths to compliance with public access mandates, including gold open access publishing options and a green open access policy that allows self-archiving of author manuscripts with zero embargo period.

Open Access Publishing Options
Our commitment to open science spans our entire publication portfolio. We publish a suite of Gold Open Access journals, and our Author Select option enables authors to make their paper open access in all our other titles. Learn more about the open access publishing options at AIPP.

Subscribe to Open
Subscribe to Open is a fair and sustainable approach to open access. Learn more about AIP Publishing’s S2O pilot program.

Read & Publish
AIP Publishing makes research open and accessible through Read & Publish agreements with academic and research institutions. These partnerships aim to increase open access output to expand the reach of scientific discoveries across the physical sciences.

Liberal Licensing
AIP Publishing allows authors to retain copyright to their manuscripts — regardless of how you elect to publish. Our “open access” journals offer several choices of Creative Commons licenses, giving you the freedom to retain certain rights and distribute your published work without restrictions. Our “hybrid” journals use an author-friendly license to publish, granting AIP Publishing exclusive publishing privileges while copyright remains with you. We encourage all authors to post the accepted versions of their articles to their personal website or employee webpage immediately after acceptance, and to deposit the accepted version in an institutional or funder designated repository.

Open Data
AIP Publishing believes that all datasets underlying the conclusions of the paper should be available to readers. We encourage authors to deposit their datasets in publicly available repositories (where available and appropriate) or present them in the main manuscript.
If you’re submitting your paper to an AIP Publishing journal, you’ll be asked to provide a data availability statement with your submission, informing readers where the data can be found.
When data is available and linked, authors will need to provide a citation of the data in their reference list.

Industry Initiatives
AIP Publishing has been involved with industry initiatives to make content more accessible to researchers. This is at the core of our mission, to ensure that all findings with the potential to advance the physical sciences are permanently available as building blocks of future discoveries. Some of these initiatives include CHORUS, howcanishareit, Initiative for Open Citations (I40C), Initiative for Open Abstracts (I40A), and membership in the Directory of Open Access Journals.
