Allan Hamilton, MD, FACS
In 2019, Dr. Hamilton was inducted as Regents’ Professor of Surgery. This is the Arizona Board of Regents' highest academic accolade and is bestowed upon faculty members for their lasting, internationally-recognized contributions in education, research, and medicine. He is tenured professor of neurosurgery, and holds additional professorships in radiation oncology, psychology, and electrical and computer engineering.
He began his working life as a janitor and would eventually go on to graduate from Harvard Medical School before completing a neurosurgical residency training at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and a fellowship at the National Institutes of Health. He served as an Albert Schweitzer fellow in Lambaréné, Gabon and has held positions as both the Chief of the Division of Neurosurgery and Chairman of the Department of Surgery at the University of Arizona. Dr. Hamilton is also a decorated Army officer who served in Operation Desert Storm and the recipient of numerous awards over the course of his career for his discoveries and innovation.
He has been teaching AI classes at UArizona for four years and has long held an interest in the intersection of computers and medicine. His first thesis as an undergraduate detailed how computers could be employed to customize and focus education, and his career in neurosurgery was focused on the use of 3-D computer guidance systems to make surgery safer for the patient.
Kyle graduated from the University of Arizona with a bachelor's degree Neuroscience and Cognitive Science as well as Information Science and Technology. He loves the brain, computers, and enjoys taking nature photography. At ASTEC, he spends his time conducting research and assisting with simulation operations, 3D modeling and printing, and simulation photography.
