Collaboration, compassion, and change – all in one room. 🤝🐾 For the first time ever, FOUR PAWS hosted a Shelter Round Table in Chișinău, Moldova, bringing together local shelter representatives, veterinarians, and volunteers to share knowledge, exchange experiences, and build a stronger network for animal welfare. 🇲🇩 Led by our experts Oleksandra Lischyshyna and Cansin Turker Meral, the event sparked honest discussions about the challenges shelters face – from limited resources to public trust – and highlighted the power of cooperation in creating lasting change for animals. This Round Table is part of our broader Dog Population Management programme in Moldova, where FOUR PAWS, together with its local partner, is building humane, sustainable, and community-driven solutions for stray dogs. 🐕 What happens when shelters that once worked in isolation come together for the first time? Change for animals doesn’t happen alone — it happens when passionate organisations join forces. 🌟🤝 FOUR PAWS was proud to host members of the World Federation for Animals in Vienna this week to strengthen our collective voice for animals, people, and the planet. 🌍 Here’s to partnerships that turn compassion into action! #AnimalWelfare #TogetherForAnimals #Collaboration #OneHealth Collaboration is the catalyst for lasting change! This week, I had the pleasure of hosting fellow World Federation for Animals (WFA) members at the FOUR PAWS headquarters in Vienna for our quarterly board meeting. Surrounded by representatives of animal welfare organisations from around the world, even though challenging I felt extremely optimistic for the future of animal welfare globally. Driving systemic reform that recognises animal welfare as essential to the wellbeing of animals, humans, and the planet is no easy path. But partnerships are the foundation of progress - especially when it comes to embedding animal welfare into global policy frameworks. We know that monumental shifts are possible, but they don’t happen in isolation. This year’s major milestones – e.g. #OneHealth milestone (the formal inclusion of animal welfare in the World Health Organization Pandemic Agreement) or WFA´s Lobby Week during the #UNGA - are powerful examples of what collective and collaborative advocacy can achieve… The animal welfare movement is growing worldwide, and FOUR PAWS is proud to be a member of the WFA alongside other dedicated organisations that continue to champion the role of animals in the sustainable development agenda. Because when we protect animals, we protect people and the planet. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Joining me from left to right: Roly Owers, Treasurer of the Board and CEO of World Horse Welfare; Glenys Oogjes, CEO of Animals Australia; David Bowles, Head of Campaigns and Public Affairs at RSPCA; Britta Riis, CEO of Dyrenes Beskyttelse (Animal Protection Demark); Reineke Hameleers, Vice President of the Board and CEO of Eurogroup for Animals; To my right: Wim DeKok, Secretary of the Board and President of the NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR ANIMAL PROTECTION INC; Linda Edwards, Chief Executive of SPANA ; Josphat Ngonyo, Executive Director of the Africa Network for Animal Welfare (ANAW); Sirjana Nijjar, Asia for Animals Coalition; and James Yeates, CEO of World Federation for Animals. 🛑 Stop scrolling for a moment. Here’s your pawsitive reminder from one of our rescued tigers to: ☀ soak up some sunshine 🧘♀️ stretch 🪷 and simply be. Even the most powerful animals need time to rest – and so do we. Take a deep breath, look up, and let the sky remind you how soft life can be. ☁️✨ #AnimalSanctuary #Tiger #Wellbeing #TakeAMoment

📢 On the 3rd of October, EAT and The Lancet Group Commission released an update to its landmark Planetary Health Diet report, and their message is clear: For a healthy, sustainable and just diet, we need to cut meat consumption and shift to mostly plant-based diets. This means changing to food systems that enable high animal welfare and the protection of people and planet. 🌍 FOUR PAWS calls for a global reduction in meat consumption by half. To achieve this, Global North countries need to uphold their responsibility and cut meat consumption by more than 70%. 🍽️ Based on FAO data, in 2023 alone, 85.4 billion animals were slaughtered for food globally. According to the report, adopting a diet that fits the planetary health recommendations would mean livestock numbers decline. That’s fewer animals cruelly kept, transported, and killed. While the EAT-Lancet report faces backlash from the meat industry and its supporters, the facts remain: ⚠️ Meat overconsumption harms public health, fueling diabetes, higher cholesterol levels, coronary heart disease and even cancer. 🥩 Meat production and sales remain unregulated, with cheap prices masking the true environmental and health costs. 🌿 ️Reducing meat production and consumption is a key solution to multiple health, ecological and social crises we are facing. At FOUR PAWS, we welcome this report’s call for a more just and sustainable food system – one that values animal welfare, healthy communities, and a thriving planet. 🌱 We highlight these urgent issues each year with Meat Exhaustion Day, showing how quickly the annual recommended meat limit is surpassed, usually by June. Swipe through our slides to learn more about the key takeaways and what needs to change. 👉 🔗 Learn more about why this dietary shift matters: https://lnkd.in/dqw5fK9w #PlanetaryHealthDiet #EATLancet #AnimalWelfare #ClimateAction #Compassion #SustainableFood

Over 100,000 supporters joined our call to end private bear keeping in Slovenia, and now, bear Mici can finally be rescued! 🐻🎉 Along with the cooperation of the local authorities and Mici’s owner, this long-awaited rescue is becoming a reality. Mici's owner has agreed to voluntarily hand over the bear, and we congratulate him on this decision for the welfare of the animal. Later this year, FOUR PAWS will relocate 24-year-old Mici to BEAR SANCTUARY Arbesbach in Austria, where she will have a large outdoor enclosure and all the space she needs to withdraw from people. 🌲 Originally planned to move to Germany, Mici’s new home in Arbesbach was chosen because it offers her even more privacy and tranquillity: the perfect environment for Mici, who has shown signs of stress around people that visit the restaurant she is kept at. 🍃 Our team, along with a wildlife vet, recently visited Mici to ensure she’s ready for this life-changing move. She’s active but still clearly stressed – a reminder of why this rescue matters. 🩺 We now hope that the last bear kept in poor conditions in private captivity in Slovenia, bear Tim, can soon also be rescued and brought to one of our sanctuaries. With a ban on private bear keeping coming into force in 2026, Slovenia is close to ending this sad chapter in its history and giving every bear a chance at a life worth living. 🇸🇮 📖 Learn more about the situation of bears in Slovenia: https://lnkd.in/de5QcA9p 💌 Contribute to future rescues and lifelong care: https://lnkd.in/d38XtUJb. 📸: © FOUR PAWS | Timon Hozo #AnimalWelfare #BearRescue #Slovenia #UntilEveryCageIsEmpty #SaddestBears

A step toward a kinder Indonesia! 🐈🇮🇩 Hope for millions of animals: The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) has approved the Animal Protection and Welfare Bill for inclusion in the 2026 National Legislation Program️. 🏛 This milestone includes a proposed ban on the dog and cat meat trade, now backed by multi-party support. Thanks to the tireless advocacy of DOG MEAT FREE INDONESIA - DMFI, of which FOUR PAWS is a proud member, and engagement with the Indonesian Democratic Party, this could be a true turning point. 💪 Together with our DMFI partners, we’ll keep pushing to ensure this bill delivers real change: an end to the cruel dog and cat meat trade and higher standards for animal welfare across Indonesia. 🐾 #DogMeatFreeIndonesia #AnimalWelfare #Indonesia #EndDogMeatTrade #ProtectMillions

Every year, disasters affect millions of lives – human and animal alike. Yet animals are still too often the first affected and the last considered when crises strike. 🌊🐾 As the world marked International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (#IDDRR) this week, we echo the United Nations’s call to shift focus from reacting to crises to building resilience before they happen, because protecting animals is not only compassionate, but also smart, sustainable, and essential for resilient communities. 💪 In this article, Patrick Durrant, FOUR PAWS Director of Rescue and Preparedness, and Jackson Zee, our Armed Conflict and Disaster Framework Expert, explore what it means to 'Fund Resilience, Not Disasters' and why animal welfare must be part of disaster risk planning from the start. Because when animals are safe, people and communities are stronger too. 🌱 #ResiliencePays #AnimalWelfare #DisasterRiskReduction

#MichaelKors, it’s time for accountability in fashion. 💔🐑 In recent months, we reached out to over a 100 global fashion brands, urging them to commit to protecting lambs. Why? Because 10+ million lambs suffer for wool each year. They endure a brutal mutilation where strips of skin and flesh are sliced off lambs’ bottoms — without proper pain relief. ❌ This is live lamb cutting (#mulesing), and over half of the world’s clothing wool begins with this cruelty. ✂️ We asked Michael Kors three questions: ⭕ Do you have a clear policy against live lamb cutting? ⭕ Do you label certified LLC-free wool on your products? ⭕ Will you commit to excluding live-cut wool from your supply chain? So far, we’ve received NO response. Protecting animals is not a luxury — it’s a responsibility. It’s time for the fashion industry to step up and commit to a kinder, more sustainable future. 📨 Ask Michael Kors to commit to wool free from live lamb cutting: https://lnkd.in/dTpuU_Hg 👉 Comment, tag Michael Kors and ask them to #ProtectLambs! #MichaelKors #ProtectLambs #EndLiveLambCutting #WearItKind

Cruelty is still in Woolrich’s fashion, and it’s time for change. 🧥🦊 Despite weeks of global campaigning by the Fur Free Alliance and FOUR PAWS, outdoor brand Woolrich continues to sell real fur, even though most of its competitors have already gone fur-free. From raccoon dogs and foxes on Finnish fur farms to coyotes trapped in the wild, the suffering behind these jackets is immense. And with high-quality, animal-free alternatives already available – even in Woolrich’s own collection – there’s no excuse to keep supporting cruelty. ❌ More than 1,600 brands have already gone fur-free. It’s time Woolrich joined them. ⌛ 💡 Read our latest newsletter to learn more about the campaign and the global shift toward a fur-free future. #FurFreeWoolrich #FurFreeFuture #FurFreeEurope #FurFreeRetailer #AnimalWelfare #SustainableFashion

#BrittanyFerries: Public pressure works – but the fight isn’t over. 🚢⚠️ For over 30 years, Brittany Ferries stood against the cruel transport of live farmed animals by sea. But in early 2025, they reversed course and resumed shipments of vulnerable, unweaned calves from Ireland to France. 💔 📢 Together with our allies, FOUR PAWS called on Brittany Ferries to end this practice. For months, our pleas and an open letter went unanswered – until now. After six months of campaigning, Brittany Ferries has agreed to meet with CIWF France and Welfarm, alongside FOUR PAWS and supported by L214, at the company’s headquarters in Roscoff. The CEO listened to our demands and has agreed to a follow-up meeting in November. While this does not yet mean an end to live animal transport, it marks a first step towards dialogue. 🙏 The public’s opinion is clear: 🇬🇧 In the United Kingdom, only 1 in 10 support the transport of unweaned calves. 🇫🇷 In France, 81% oppose it, and 62% say a ferry company’s involvement would directly affect their travel choices. 💬 As Sabine, a passenger who witnessed the suffering and cries from the young animals, shared: “It was the kind of scream that hits you right in the gut.” We urge Brittany Ferries to return to their ethical stance and stop transporting live animals. The public, your customers, and your own employees are calling for change. 🔗 Read our open letter: https://lnkd.in/dF9DuYs2 #StopTheTrucks #AnimalWelfare #LiveAnimalTransport #BrittanyFerries
