InvestCEC at the 85th Anniversary of Stadtwerke Klagenfurt AG 🎉 InvestCEC project took part in the celebration of 85 years of Stadtwerke Klagenfurt, showcasing how circular economy projects can drive sustainable urban development. 🏙️ Our information point attracted visitors from Klagenfurt and the surrounding region, who had the opportunity to learn more about InvestCEC’s goals and activities. 🎉 This Tuesday, we celebrated the successful conclusion of the InvestCEC project with an event during #EURegionsWeek 2025 at the EU Parliament. 🎉   The event opened with remarks from Andrea Motola, InvestCEC coordinator and consultant at Enspire Science Ltd., who reflected on the project’s journey in translating EU-level circularity objectives to the city level. We also heard the vision of the Circular Cities and Regions Initiative (CCRI) from Davide Delaiti (Project Adviser at European Research Executive Agency (REA)), and Lucie Blondel (Policy Officer at DG Research & Innovation, and CCRI coordinator), who discussed how circularity drives competitiveness and innovation.   We had the pleasure to hear from MEP Sandro Gozi, who delivered an inspiring keynote speech, emphasizing public procurement as a strategic tool to strengthen European autonomy, and advance the strategic objectives of regions and cities. He called for it to be prioritized in policy agendas and made simpler, fairer, and more EU-centric.   InvestCEC Consortium partners Uffe Bundgaard-Jorgensen, Paul Stern, and Giorgio Alessandro shared project lessons learnt, recommendations, and next steps—highlighting that establishing successful public-private partnerships is essential to advancing the circular economy. Yet challenges remain; limited funding access, fragmented regulations, and the need to de-risk early-stage projects.   An important highlight of the event was the panel discussion featuring Maya Poncelet (Una Terra Early Growth Fund), Kathrina Rieger (Concular), and René W. Cerne Cerne (City of Klagenfurt), who shared their experiences in implementing circular economy projects through public procurement and public-private partnerships. Despite persistent barriers—particularly in accessing finance—projects like InvestCEC can serve as leading examples for shifting toward an opportunity-driven narrative and reducing complexity for both investors and public authorities.   We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated and contributed to this moment, marking the culmination of three years of intense collaboration and learning. 👏Special thanks to Andrea Accorigi (CCRI) for moderating the panel with excellence and to Giorgio Alessandro (Greenovate! With over a decade of experience, Kathrina has dedicated her career to transforming the built environment.
