  • “Competitiveness creates prosperity and prosperity creates autonomy.” At the CEE Finance and Capital Markets Workshops 2025 in Vienna, hosted by Freshfields, our CFO Sebastian Firlinger delivered a keynote on “Europe 2.0: Competitive and Autonomous.” He underlined that Europe’s competitiveness, and thus its autonomy, depends on the ability to invest boldly in innovation, infrastructure and productivity. Infrastructure, he emphasized, is the hidden lever of competitiveness, enabling the green and digital transitions. As an Infra Banking Expert, Kommunalkredit supports Europe’s transformation by connecting public purpose with private investment, turning vision into viable projects and ambition into impact. #GreenTransition #InfraBankingExperts #ShapingTomorrow #EuropeInnovation

Starting a new chapter takes courage – and at Kommunalkredit, it means choosing meaningful work that helps shape Europe’s green future. At our recent Onboarding Day, we welcomed new colleagues, with words of encouragement from our CEO Jacques Ripoll, also a “new joiner” himself. He reminded us that joining Kommunalkredit means choosing: - A bank of the right size and mission: agile, personal, and impactful in infrastructure and energy transition. - A culture of meritocracy, where effort is seen and rewarded. - An open organization, where new perspectives drive transformation. - A pivotal moment in our growth journey – with Altor Equity Partners as long-term shareholder, we’re becoming a pan-European leader in energy transition. - Openness and ethics at the core, with lean hierarchies and direct access to leadership. Welcome to the team! #OnboardingDay #NewBeginnings #JoinOurTeam #InfraBankingExperts

  • Solar. Storage. Scale. Southern Europe is moving fast! Across Greece, Italy, Bulgaria and Romania, the energy transition is no longer a plan. It’s being built. And financing plays a decisive role in whether this shift succeeds. Our colleague Amila Colakhodzic, Senior Originator and Client Coverage Energy Transition, recently joined the Large Scale Solar Southern Europe conference in Athens to connect with industry leaders and explore how private capital can accelerate impact across the region. A key theme throughout the conference: Driving the energy transition requires action-oriented financing, strong public-private cooperation, and the ability to navigate complexity at scale. At Kommunalkredit, we bring the tools to make that possible, by turning investment into infrastructure and ideas into impact. #GreenTransition #InfraBankingExperts #InfrastructureFinance #ShapingTomorrow

  • AI’s environmental impact is real but context matters. A recent FAZ article highlighted the resource intensity of AI infrastructure. While the concerns are clearly valid on a global scale, the situation in Europe requires a more nuanced view in terms of AI´s environmental footprint in Europe. Stefan Wala, Head of Origination & Client Coverage at Kommunalkredit, puts it this way: “AI infrastructure, especially data centers, requires substantial energy, that is undisputed. However, most of the projected environmental burden refers  to regions with comparatively fewer regulatory constraints and more dependence on fossil-heavy electricity production. In Europe, the picture is more differentiated: over 66% of data centers are already powered by climate-neutral/green electricity, and a full transition is expected to begin in 2027. The sector’s stated goal is to reach 100% by 2030. Cities like Frankfurt, Amsterdam, London, and Dublin – along with Nordic hubs – benefit from readily available green energy sources like hydro, PV solar or wind and a more environmentally conscious regulatory framework, all of which drive greater efficiency and help to decarbonize the proliferation of AI infrastructure.” As Infra Banking Experts, we actively finance sustainable digital infrastructure, including green energy-powered data centers with energy-efficient designs and waste heat recovery systems. These projects are key to reap the benefits of digitalization in a decarbonized future. #GreenTransition #InfraBankingExperts #InfrastructureFinance #ShapingTomorrow

  • At the Kommunale Sommergespräche 2025, political scientist Peter Filzmaier highlighted three key levers for reversing population loss and strengthening municipalities: sufficient funding, better intergenerational dialogue, and future-oriented infrastructure.   He noted that securing adequate financial resources through a reform of the municipal fiscal equalization system is key - especially for smaller communities.   And public finance plays a crucial role, enabling municipalities to fund essential infrastructure beyond per capita quotas.   #KSG2025 #InfraBankingExperts #EnergyTransition #ShapingTomorrow

  • Is Europe’s transformation bankable? Europe faces an urgent need for new infrastructure. With EUR 2.5 trillion in investments required by 2030, the real question is not what to build - that is clear - but how to finance it. In a guest commentary for KURIER Medienhaus, our CFO Sebastian Firlinger explains why Europe’s transformation will only succeed if private capital is mobilized, financing structures are adapted, and the concept of bankability is redefined.
