  • Office Tower Schnirchgasse

    –Heute

    After completion of the "Highrise Schnirchgasse" project, this office tower will become the fifth tallest building in Austria.
    However, the special feature of this building is the client’s requirement of BIM Level 3 (according to ÖNORM 6241-2).

    The main contractor, ARGE SHARE Architects ZT GmbH & AZPML Ltd., has invited us to join the project in order to supervise the planners in the team and to implement the BIM Level 3 requirement in practice.

    After completion of the "Highrise Schnirchgasse" project, this office tower will become the fifth tallest building in Austria.
    However, the special feature of this building is the client’s requirement of BIM Level 3 (according to ÖNORM 6241-2).

    The main contractor, ARGE SHARE Architects ZT GmbH & AZPML Ltd., has invited us to join the project in order to supervise the planners in the team and to implement the BIM Level 3 requirement in practice.
    A particular challenge were the different tools used in this case: Vasko & Partner, Building Technology & Building Physics (Plancal, DDS Cad, Archiphysics); Gmeiner Haferl, structural engineering (Allplan, SCIA, Revit); SHARE & AZPML, Architecture (Revit, Dynamo).
    Our primary goal here was to create a collaboration infrastructure, which can be used as efficiently as possible in daily planning and allows both the team and the client access to a "single source of truth". The combination of the "Open BIM" and "Closed BIM" modes of operation, made it possible to ensure a highly efficient time period but also one that is appropriate to the planning conventions.

    The project for the new ÖBB station in Lavanttal shows a similar constellation of the main contractor team to the Merkur Campus in Graz. Main contractor is here Zechner & Zechner ZT GmbH (Revit), structural engineering is done by Thomas Lorenz ZT GmbH (Revit) and the building technicians are TB Lang ZT GmbH (Revit).
    Our collaboration infrastructure enables the already experienced planning team to work more efficiently and to improve the quality of the project.

    Our collaboration infrastructure enables the already experienced planning team to work more efficiently and to improve the quality of the project.

    Furthermore, we are constantly assisting the entire planning team with our support and ensuring the high-performance of the building database by working through central file maintenance.

The main contractor and the already in BIM experienced MEP office TB Lang ZT GmbH were set to work interdisciplinary in a central database. In addition to the basic BIM Execution Plan, we were commissioned to create the collaborative hardware recovery cure.
    Apart from the successful team training for the team of architects and the optimization of the working methods of the structural engineers, we defined the rules for cooperation and created modeling guides for each discipline.

    With a similar team constellation as the ÖAMTC Headquarters project, the Future Art Lab project for the University of Music Vienna, commissioned a particularly interesting building from BIG (Bundes Immobilien GesmbH). Thanks to the appealing architecture, the architects from Pichler & Traupmann Architekten manage to cause a stir again. Even more exciting this time around was the participation of more planners from the general planner team in the creation of the building data model. In addition to the architects (Revit) and Fritsch, Chiari and Partner (Revit), both the MEP planners of Gawaplan (Plancal) have gained direct access to the model. The electrical planners from Kubik Project (Revit) and the sound studio planners (Revit) were directly involved in the model. The building data model was again located in Vienna in one of our servers in a data center. To coordinate the collaboration and to ensure that it runs smoothly, the General Planer team commissioned us to prepare a BAP (BIM Execution Plan), in which we introduced an in-depth quality management of the model. With tools like Solibri, we were able to accurately track and document project progress to achieve an even higher quality of the model. We were also available for technical support for the complete General Planer team, as usual.

It is also considered to be one of the first buildings of such complexity, which was planned across multiple disciplines, integrally (based on the BIM Level 3 approach). The architects of Pichler & Traupmann Architekten ZT GmbH were commissioned as main contractors to design a new headquarters for the ÖAMTC (Austrian Automobile and Touring Club).     The ÖAMTC headquarters in Vienna is an exeptional even beyond its spectacular architecture. It is also considered to be one of the first buildings of such complexity, which was planned across multiple disciplines, integrally (based on the BIM Level 3 approach). The architects of Pichler & Traupmann Architekten ZT GmbH were commissioned as main contractors to design a new headquarters for the ÖAMTC (Austrian Automobile and Touring Club). Along side the structural engineers from Fritsch, Chiari & Partner ZT GmbH, the planning team decided to work together on a model available across the offices.
    At this point, we were called in. In this project we were entirely responsible for the planning and support of the BIM infrastructure. On our servers in a data center in Vienna we provided the highest possible availability of the model file in which both structural engineering (Revit) and architecture (Revit) could work on at the same time.
    In order to be able to realize such an integral cooperation, in addition to a BIM Execution Plan, we also created BIM objects for cross-disciplinary collaboration.
    Although this was the planning teams first BIM project, we were able to assure, through our intensive support, an efficient, safe and, above all, a high-quality creation of a building data model.
    We are proud to have collaborated on this successful project and look forward to further projects with the planning team!

    We are proud to announce that we are the winners of 2016's AEC Excellence Award in the category "Building Simulation and Analysis Technology"!

    2016 we submitted the ÖAMTC Headquarter (general planer: Pichler & Traupmann Architekten and FCP - more information in the follow up blog entry) to participate at the AEC Excellence Awards. This project shows very well that complex geometry and BIM are no contradiction. Moreover, it was quite important for us to participate at the competition with a project, which is already built (Note: ÖAMTC headquarters were moved into this month). Since the ÖAMTC headquarter is one of our most famous projects as a young company, it was a special honor for us to be nominated for the AEC Excellence Awards finally. And even better, we could convince the US-American jury and now won the first place in our category!

    The AEC Excellence Award is an annual competition, which includes different categories such as "IPD or Collaboration”, “Computational Design” or “Design and Fabrication”, and is awarded at the Autodesk University in Las Vegas. This year, the response to the competition was impressive, with 162 submissions and 29 countries represented.
